Some do. Tthe anti-matter and Quantum torpedos are direct fire, i have no idea why but hey at least they don't get destroyed by point defense

AFAIK, the only torpedo that isn't direct fire is the Crystalline Torpedo, which is a seeker.

Plasma Torpedos are also seekers.

Think of them as the Star Trek torpedos, you never saw an opposing ship dodge, out run or shoot down a torpedo once Kirk/Picard had Chekov/Data fire one at a Klingon/Borg ship. But it is technically (according to the appropriate Treknobabble explanation) a pLastic case with antimatter, a engine and a detonator inside, just like a WWII sub marine torpedo (yeah, I know, those could be outrun, confused by coutermeasures, etc -- remember, just nod at what the actor says and eat some more popcorn, you don't want to think, that's why your're watching tv)

Basically, if you chose to research Military Science instead of Physics, you at least get a direct fire weapon besides DUC in either case. It just all depends on your research order.
