So dogscoff, one way or the other, I will miss the patch 2 SEIV. Damn!!
So the easiest way to get the patch, is to lose all timezones and end up with only one.
Hee, maybe thats a good idea to propose during the world meeting in south afrika...maybe our prime minister of president bush can propose this.
Do you imagine; no timezones, no more calculation if you are in time for your next PBW turn....
PERFECT, what an idea; hee this idea should be worth a nobel price..... i will be worlblafdgsghsfga aklfweflhnllb.
....
Sorry for this, but sparhawk has to take his medicine.

[idle speculation while waiting for patch]Hmmm, if we lived on a ringworld we wouldn't have timezones, or seasons would we?[/idle speculation while waiting for patch]

Nope, or day or night, either. Unless your domicile rotated around the ringworld.

Can anyone let me know if 1.67 saves still work with the patch? That could present a problem...

A series of solar shades in close-orbit to hte primary -- in the original Ringworld, these also served as power collection devices, essentially, huge solar panels whose shadows created alternating day/night (in exactly equal proportions) around the entirety of the Ring itself.
So there WOULD be timezones, in the sense of local time (in similar spreads, IOW, one-hour ribbons). But there would also likely be a "master time", similar to GMT.

In the Culture novels, Banks had his "Orbitals" (very ringworld-like constructions) going round their stars in a planet-like orbit, spinning on their axes like a planet. Might as well just build a planet, IMHO...
IIRC, they were a few thousand miles wide and several million in circumference. That would mean that the side nearest the star (The night side) would be a million or so miles closer to the star than the day side. In 12 hours or so they would swap places because the thing is spinning. Would a million miles be enough to effect climate change? I suppose the fact that you are sheltered from direct sunlight would be partially offset by the fact that you are nearer to the source. Still, the stresses on such a construction from heat differences alone (without even considering gravitaional) would be unthinkable.
mind you,if you have the technology to bbring that much material ogether and make something out of it, you have the technology to overcome pretty much anything. Which is the whole point of the Culture novels. I'll shut up now.
Shutting up...

Just remember a day have 24h and there are also different time zones!
It could be that at your time Zone it is already 1 day later before the patch is put up on the Webpage!

Yeah. If you were in a time zone ahead of the US, and then you happened to travel a bit west while the patch was being uploaded, you could miss it altogether, and you wouldn't be able to download it without flying out to Singapore and then waiting for this morning to come back round again, yesterday.
