View Full Version : HELP - PBW + 1.78 = Error

Both of the Star Trek PBW games I am in have been updated to 1.78. On my computer, I installed another SEIV and upgraded to 1.78 because I want to keep an active 1.67 for other PBW games. When I try to load either of the Star Trek games, I get this message (http://home.attbi.com/~ezc/178error.bmp). Please help, I don't know what went wrong. I am able to play a normal game with this 1.78 install.
EDIT - I solved the problem by copying all data from my SEIV 1.67 directory to my 1.78 directory and repatching the 1.78 directory.

That tells me that the patch is from 1.67 to 1.78, not an "any gold Version" to 1.78

Gandalph, are you saying you installed SEIV Gold v 1.60 and then applied the patch? That is exactly what I did, and for the same reason. Your fix was to copy all the files in the 1.67 data folder to the 1.78 data folder? Should I do the same even though I am not playing any 1.67 PBW games (just some 1.49 PBW games)?

That tells me that the patch is from 1.67 to 1.78, not an "any gold Version" to 1.78 <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That can't be it, Gold Patch 2 definitely works on v1.60; I installed it the same way.
My v1.67 PBW game hasn't upgraded yet, so I haven't been able to test that, but both of the solo v1.67 games that I've tested so far loaded into v1.78 with no problems. I solved the problem by copying all data from my SEIV 1.67 directory to my 1.78 directory and repatching the 1.78 directory. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The patch would have overwritten anything that changed between v1.67 and v1.78; I'm baffled as to why copying the v1.67 files had any effect at all.

Make sure that the current turn you are trying to run was generated using patch 2. For example (I think Geo went into this somewhere on PBW, so someone correct me if I get this wrong), Game 1 has 5 players: A, B, C, D, and E. Players A and B upload their turn. Then the game owner requests that the game be upgraded to patch 2, and the PBW admins comply the same day (since they have nothing else to do with their time besides monitor the Admin Requests forum http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ). So now the Game Info page says that the game is running patch 2. However, players C, D, and E must submit their turns using patch 1, since the turn they have was generated using patch 1. Not until after C, D, and E submit their turn and the PBW server generates the next turn using patch 2 should the players switch over to patch 2.
I hope that wasn't too confusing... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
EDIT: P.S. I got the same error when I updated too soon. See the patch 1.78 thread in the General discussions forum on PBW for my experiences (among those of others...)

Make sure that the current turn you are trying to run was generated using patch 2. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That works great in a PBW game. How the heck would you do that in a hotseat simul game???

Easy enough. Load up the turn but instead of logging in as a player, log in as the host. Then run the turn.
