Has anyone experienced the following behavior,or better yet, can explain it? v1.78, TDM only mod.
I sent a fleet with capture planet orders to an enemy colony with no population, but my fleet just buzzed around the edge of the combat screen. I then sent it to a populated colony where my troops invaded normally (and were victrious!). Any ideas why they wouldn't invade the "undefended" colony?

I've experienced the same thing; I've also had occasions where I killed off the population of a colony (as preparation for invasion) with neutron bombs (population damage only) and, as soon as the population is zero, I get a "no planet in range" error if I try to drop troops, and then I get a "combat ended" message. I can attack again, and manually drop troops during that second attack, but strategic won't do anything. I have no idea why it happens...

I think when you kill off all the population the status of the planet changes to "colonizable" and the only way you can take it is with a colony ship as you do with all uninhabited planets.

No, if you try to colonize a zero poulation colony you will get a message that you can't colonize. That's as it should be. But you should be able to drop troops on a zero population colony in strategic. If you can't it sounds like you found a bug. I would suggest sending that and a savegame to Malfador.
