Ok I have not had the guts to try this...

Is there an adverse affect if a sphere world is built around the only sun in a system with populated worlds? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

I mean theoretically you are blocking all light from the Sun so do the planets become uninhabitable?

Edit: And what about ring worlds? same question.

nah, through the miricales of high-tech translucent concrete, its alright.

no adverse effects.

The only "adverse" effect is that you can no longer create planets out of the asteroid fields in the system. If you want to make planets out of asteroids you have to do that before you make the ring/sphereworld.

It's just seriously red-shifted to the infared. Nothing a technologically advanced race can't handle. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

And if you destroy a sphereworld (or ringworld) the star doesn't come back, right? (Even though in the ringworld picture you can see a little star inside! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif )

In the stock game you can't destroy a ring/sphereworld. If you mod the game to give you a big enough tectonic bomb to destroy one of these, the result is a huge asteroid field and no star. You can in fact make a huge planet out of the asteroids and create a star, make a ringworld out of the star, destroy it, repeat, repeat, repeat, (How many huge worlds do you want with your sphereworlds sir? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

Say, this could be the explanation of that report of a system with planets, but no star.

this game just keeps getting better and better!<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Might I suggest you click this link for a recent breakdown.

Can you use a Star Destroyer if a sphere world is around the sun?

You can only destroy stars with a star-destroying component. In game-terms, a ring or sphereworld is not a star; it is a planet. So, you cannot use a star-destroying component to destroy it.

well otehr than starting like this a super tectonic bomb could've blown up the sphere after the planets were made.

what's the population of a ring world / sphere world? is it always the same or does this number vary?
also, i imagine since it's that big that you can place a lot of facilities there otherwise i wouldn't see a real advantage to build these.
(except for the protection of your sun)

Advantage to building a sphere/ringworld.
</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Lot's of room for facilities</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">150% on all three resource values</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Room for lot's of people, so your production and construction facilities can get tremendous bonuses</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Lot's of cargo room for weapons platforms and fighters.</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Protects your star from star destroying weapons and events</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Cannot be blown up by planet destroying weapons(At leat in the stock game)</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Really, really cool to say you have built one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif </font><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Disadvantages
</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Takes a lot of reasearch to get the tech needed</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Takes a lot of resources and time to build the neccesary ships/bases to construct one</font> <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Usually by the time you get one, you don't need one anymore</font><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">

I tried this but you can't create a planet from asteroids unless there is already a star in the system.<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's not what I meant. If someone build a sphereworld in a system with planets, and then the sphereworld was destroyed, the planets would still be there, but no star.

Except that would leave an asteroid field where the sphereworld was, so I guess that's not it.
