When to upgrade during a play by email

Say, I'm currently playing a play by email game a friend is running. We play Version SE4 Gold ver. 1.67. I'd like to upgrade to the next patch, but I don't know when. Should the upgrade happen at any time, before his turn (he's player 1), before mine (I'm player 2), before he processes the AI turns, or will this never be allowed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

I'm pretty sure we both have to upgrade to play against each other, but when should each of us do it so the next turn gets processed?

Hi,

I am running a PBEM game and here is what worked for us.

I told everyone that we would upgrade *after* sending in their next turn. After I had all of the turns and before I ran them, I updated. I then sent them the files with a reminder to *update before playing*. Everything worked smoothly...

Except...

One friend had just lost a hard drive and there were some complications in getting the patch applied after restoring from the backups... but that is a different matter.

In reality, everything seems to have gone smoothly.
