View Full Version : Associating strategies with design types

The default strategy for a design appears to be based on design type (Don't Get Hurt for Colony Ship types, for example). How do I modify these default associations, so that I don't have to change each and every new ship design?

In the ship design window, click the stats/strategy button in the bottom right corner.

This will give you some stats, and a dropdown combobox which you can use to select a strategy for that ship type.

Sorry; I guess I was not clear. I know how to associate a strategy with a *ship* type. What I don't know is how to associate a strategy with a *design* type.

Such an association clearly exists. For example, every ship I create with design type "Mine Layer" defaults to "Don't Get Hurt", but every ship I create with design type "Attack Ship" defaults to "Optimal Weapons Range".

I want to know how to modify these defaults.

That, I do not know. Perhaps the minister style for your race?

There is a Default Strategy entry for each design in Default_AI_DesignCreation.txt and <raceName>_AI_DesignCreation.txt .

I don't know whether changing the settings in the Default file would be sufficient, or if you'd have to change the file for the shipset your race uses.

I would guess this is taken from your race design files...

Well, the DesignCreation.txt idea sounded good. Unfortunately, it has no impact on a game in progress. However, you can use this approach to change your strategy-design associations for a *new* game.

Oh, well.
