Just as a personal interest, do others have a set pattern that they use for playing their turns? Example, this is typicaly how I play my turns.

1- view logs but make no actions yet.
2- research. make sure that everything is researching properly and add something if I've developed new tech.
2a- redesign ship specs if I've got new techs.
3- ship. Cycle through all my ships giving new orders where needed.
4- Empire Window. Check resource levels.
5- Build Queue. Set the Queue window to sort by # of facilites and add new things to be built.
5a- Double check Empire Window to see that I haven't over done it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
5b- Convert (if avaliable) enough resources to cover any shortfall.
6- Politics.
7- Intel.

Personally, I go down the list of log Messages.
A glance through for an overall view, and then one by one.
Read it, act on it if nessesary, go to the next one.
Then I might glance around the map to check on the hotspots in my empire (shipyards, war fronts, etc)
