SE4 has some severe problems with troop transports finding a way to get to the target planet in strategic combat. If there is not a perfectly straight line to the planet, the transport gets stuck. It will get stuck by ships that had been previously bombing the weapon platforms. I even just witnessed my transport be stopped by an uncolonized moon! Sheesh!

SE IV has severe problems with pathfinding in general; the bad results are more dramatic in combat, since there are usually more obstacles, and some of them are bigger than one sector.

I had the same problem and as said this is a general issue in SE IV. I did see drones blocked by moons and therefore unable to attack.

Say you target a planet; with drones, or missiles. In tactical you target the closest square, planets being made of 4 squares. But no matter what, the misile or drone targets a distant square. It can happen that your missiles movement ends before impact. Now your drone has to endure another round of couterattacks before impact.

Oh well, that's really just a little randomness to keep the game interesting when you use missiles I guess, but these little tiny shortcomings add up to make drones seem less useful given the effort put in.

Hmmm, I was under impression it was fixed in one of the latest patches: the target point of a planet is its center now.
