Atrocities

For the first time in all the games that I have played, the AI actually invaded one of my worlds!

The AI (STNG Federation) has thus far heavily fortified all of its planets, and I have been taking them one at a time at a great cost.

One of the worlds that I took a while back was just retaken from this turn. It blew me away.

The AI has adopted my tatics and is now using them. Very cool. Very very cool. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Now to wipe them out. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Atrocities, you obviously must be dreaming! An intelligent AI? AI= Artificial ignorance!!!

I mean come on, the ai in SEIVG seems to think that the best way to win is send 1 ship at a tiem into a wormhole guarded by mines until its entire fleet is destroyed!

Captain Styles: But Sir, do I HAVE to be next?

Admiral DeVore: Yes, Captain, it is your turn to enter the warp-point. Your ship is registry number NX-1382, and the Last ship we sent through, the Prometheus, was number NX-1381. I'm sorry, but there's no way around it.

Styles: But there are MINES on the other side! Couldn't they at least send a mine-sweeper? And why send our new fancy battleships anyway? Why not one of those old decrepit frigates that High Command has been meaning to scrap for the past 10 years?

DeVore: Orders are orders, Captain, and I expect you to follow them.

Some TDM AI do not make such mistakes. In fact, I was very impressed how Pyrochette sweep my 100 mines mine field !

I have found that mines are only effective for a while. Then the AI starts using Minesweepers or MS components.

I am currently playing a solo game where the Vorlon's came into my territory with troop transports in their fleet and started taking my planets. As I had the rest of my WP's blockaded, I concentrated my efforts on regaining my space from them. Then the Namovan's opened a warp point into my home system and sent in a star destroyer and, you guessed it, BAM!!!

Although the stock AI's are dumb, this is proof that a modded AI can be an effective pain in the arse!

In another thread someone mentioned putting weapons on Colony LC's.
A TDM just waltzed into my home systems, Glassed a new Gas Giant colony and placed a colony on one of the Rock moons of that planet

Just like the AI, build a star destroyer, then blow up there own system with it. LOL

that was a good laugh, what would they do with a tectonic bomb? hmmmm, on tectonic bombs, slightly OT,

But could you put a drone size tectonic bomb, meant for drones only (very $$$) that would be like a mini bomb deal. (would only work with"moveto" order which i hope is forthcoming in a new patch) with this so called "move to" order you could also mount tons of new stellar manip things on drones! yeah! how about ftr sized tectonic bombs or gravity matter spheres, that would of course kill the ship/ftr using it? all thoughts, and in the case of the ftr mounted tectonic bomb one ill probably use in my foundation and empire mod (that i have been thinking of but not doing) to go with the scenario (which i have been thinking of a bit more).

Enough already, have you contracted Diareaha of the mouth again!

In the sci-fi show Andromeda, they have Nova Bombs that can act as a catalyst for a supernova. In something like the third episode, they had modified fighters capable of carrying them.

Captain Styles: But Sir, what is this new weapon supposed to do? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

Admiral DeVore: It is called a "star destroyer". When your ship activates the weapon in the same sector as a star, the star goes supernova and all planets in the system are obliterated. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Styles: But Sir, we are now a neutral empire. We can't leave this system. We will glass our own people! We will wipe out our own civilization! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

DeVore: Orders are orders, Captain, and I expect you to follow them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

The only time I had a neutral do this, however, was way back in the SE4 Beta when the neutrals kept wandering out of thier systems.

Funny, however, they blew up thier own system on accident. I was no where near thier territory (minus a few cloaked escorts) when it happened. Oh well, I was able to save 50 ships I set aside for an invasion of thier empire and take down the insideously cute Eee....

BTW, a well designed Battleship or Dreadnought can be made into a one-ship warfleet. I was able to severely cripple an entrenched AI by simply skirting a DN around thier defenses and picking off ships and planets.

Best is when you have stealth armor, and your enemy is no where near sensors so you fly ten ships around hitting all his planets, then he disperses his normal fleet for defense agianst that and then of course your 20+ strong battle Groups show up and reduce his empire to rubble, moral of the story, get tachyon lvl 1 fast, after that its a free ride till someone researches cloaking 2 (which is very expensive IIRC)

Heres another topper.

I was forced to develop star killers and had produced only 2 by the time the Klingon AI that I am using used WARP POINT openers to open two stratigic worm holes into key systems. I discovered them only 3 turns before they invaded. I was lucky that I was able to move a fleet into each system to challenge them when they emerged. I also had the oppertunity to send a cloaked Warp Point Closer and two Star Killers through before the Joint Cardassian / Klingon / Borg Fleet came thru. (The Klingons had conqured the Borg long ago and had a military allinace with the Cardassians.)

I used the Warp Closer to shut down the Warp Points to my systems, as both came from the same Klingon held system. (A Gas nebula)

I then deployed the two Star Killers in heavily populated and well equiped Klingon Systems. Both systems had over 200 ships each fleeted, 20 + worlds (Fyrons Q-Mod) which were all fully populated and defended by Weapon Platforms, Satellites, Troops, Fighters, and mines. (Only the Federation does it better. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

I blew both systems to hell and started construction of System Gravitational Facilities in each of my systems.

About 20 turns later I produced another 2 Star Killers and deployed them to a Cardassian system that had a System Gravitational Facility (SGF) in order to wipe out the system and close the WP.

I was lucky and the first planet I attacked had the SGF on it, thus I was able to close the WP, but not before my 2 Star Killers arrived. I wiped out the entire system with my conventional fleet, and cloaked my two star killers and ordered them into adjancent systems.

One was destroyed by mines. (Well placed and abundant)

The other arrived on target, a peach system full of Cardassian worlds, ships, and population in addition to a massive 150 + fleet of Klingon Baseships.

I gave the order to decloak and destroy the start with a smirk on my face. I was about to deliver a crippling blow to the Klingons while blooding the Cardassians Noses.

Nothing happened. The Damned Cardassian AI had built a counter measure Facility. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

My ship was attacked and destroyed.

I am using standard AI, no major modification except to the Borg, Klingon, and Romulan races. The two races that are using totally non-malfador combo AI wwere the Borg and the Romulans. (The Klingon are using God Emperors / Maldor AI combo.)

The ranking for most of the game has been:

Klingon
Cardassian
Federation
Ferengi
ME (Species 8472)
Romulan
Breen
Borg

The Klingons have taken out the Borg, did so early on in the game.

I have taken out the Romulans. They were weak.

Right now the standings at turn 400 (Game time 40 years) are impressive.

NOTE: I have been hitting the Federation hard and have taken 8 of there systems and the worlds contained within. Additionally I have blown up one of their systems with a Star Killer. (Needed to close the Warp Point ASAP, and that was the fastest way to clear the effects of the Gravitational Facility.)

I have many Cardassian held systems and will take out the Breen next.

When I set the game up, I set the AI to max bonuses for best game play value. There are neutrals, but I have only encountered one, and they surrendered when prompted to.

Right now the AI is impressing me. Very fun game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Wow, Atrocities, that does sound like a cool game.

I have one question:

Right now the standings at turn 400 (Game time 40 years) are impressive.

Research Pt's = 1.8m <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">After 40 years with these research numbers, what the heck is left to research?

Research is about 2/3rds completed. The cost of research was set to high. I also increased some of the items research requirements.

Thanks, Atrocities, that makes sense. I keep forgetting that in PBW we are trading tech madly and by turn 80, you are somewhere around 150 techs and thinking about converting to intel facilities. Makes a big difference with no treaties to speak of and all the aliens are alienated. :-)

I just lost one of my most valued fleets to a joint Klingon Cardassian fleet.

I warped into a nebula system, and used a Nebula Killer ship to wipe out the Nebula. Much to my displeasure there were two rather large fleets there and I had no turns left for my fleet.

I processed the turn.

I lost 90% of my fleet to the AI fleet. They simply just out numbered me 10 to 1.

Here is one of the ships that survived. Look at the Skill level, no wonder it survived.
