For all you MODDERS out there, I may have had one too many and had this thought:
Since the AI's don't really know if a tech is better and uses the 'latest' tech...would it be possiable to MOD an AI tech that get's WORSE with time? Sort of like a race that lives BACKWARD in time. AI only of course.
Such a AI should be Uber-powerful at start and get WEAKER as the game goes on. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

AI Commander: Bring that Baseship in for retrofitting, Captain.

Captain: Ah, the new Meson BLaster Is have arrived? Right away!

Commander: Even better, we have escorts now! You'll be driving one of these babies in a week!

Unfortunately, for some components and most facilities, the AI will choose the one with the greatest value for the ability it wants.
The AI will also refuse to use normal shields if any phased shields are available.

Perhaps the AI gurus amongst us can figure out a way around these problems.

That would be doable, though very wierd. You would have to totally duplicate all the tech areas and components and reverse them. You'd have two sets of everything basically. Sounds like a lot of work, unless someone can write a script to do it or something.
