View Full Version : AI Mood questions...... and its answer

Q

Does anybody know what the numerical mood levels are for the displayed racial moods? What's the range for "moderate", "agry", "warm" etc. ??
And second question: is there an upper numerical mood limit (as for happiness) or can the mood level reach values of 200 or higher?

Are you asking for this from happiness.txt?

Population Happiness Levels:
Pop Anger Pct Description Res Mod
75 - 100 Rioting 0%
60 - 74 Angry 60%
45 - 59 Unhappy 80%
30 - 44 Indifferent 100%
15 - 29 Happy 120%
0 - 14 Jubiliant 140%

looks like the min/max is 0/100 with 0 being ultimately extatic and 100 being postal.

the modifiers are in the rest of happiness.txt.

Nevermind... I just re-read your question and I didn't even come close to the answer.

Since the attribute is called "mood", maybe it's hormonal.

Anger is the reaction of an AI empire to other races and determines its political responses (treaties etc.). It is fixed in the anger.txt file and has nothing to do with happiness.
Are my questions now clear?

No ideas for my initial two questions?

I'll try it once more. Anyone knows now the answer to my initial question of this topic???

No, but the "happiness" of a colony is derived from the "anger" level of its population. How the AI views you is not "anger", it is "mood". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

If you get your population angry enough, do they all turn big and green and start chucking tanks around?

Maybe the Drushocka do, but I haven't seen much of that happening yet.

Sorry for the confusion: I now changed the title and my first message to be clear: I am talking about AI mood not population happiness! (The confusion is because the AI mood is defined by the AI anger.txt file)
So again: anyone (Beta-Testers) is able to answer my initial question???

This seems to be rather unknown territory.
Therefore I made a little test myself:

Two empires under human control except the politics minister. The corresponding AI anger.txt file were modified with all events having an effect = 0 except the "regular decrease". There empire 1 had a value of -50, empire 2 a value of +50. When the empires established contact the moods changed rapidly for empire 1 to brotherly and for empire 2 to murderous. I completed a few more turns just to be sure to get the extreme values of the moods.
Then I changed the regular decrease values to +10 for empire 1 and to -10 for empire 2. This resulted in a clear but slower change of the moods towards the other extreme. From this test I believe the correlation between the AI mood/anger value and the displayed moods is the following:

0-9: Brotherly
10-19: Amiable
20-29: Receptive
30-39: Warm
40-59: Moderate
60-69: Cool
70-79: Displeased
80-89: Angry
90-100: Murderous

It seems impossible to get values over 100 or negative values.
My personal conclusion is that you should choose the values in the AI anger.txt file rather low otherwise you get extreme changes of the mood very rapidly. And there is no use to have in the AI politics.txt file conditions for anger below 0 or above 100.

Nice test.

From your data is it fairly simple to see that something close to a one hundred point rage exists, but I do not understand how you are certain that it stretches from zero to one hundred. Could it not just as easily go from negative fifty to fifty?

Additionally, is it not still possible that a starting anger can be specified to something outside the range that anger can move to on it's own?

Loser basically you are right. But all values of the AI anger in the politics file are positive and between 0 and 100. Therefore this is most probable the range.
And there is the line in the AI anger.txt file:

Minimum Anger := 10

which makes that the AI mood never gets brotherly but just amiable.

Last the starting mood is always moderate if you make contact.

That about covers it. Thank you.

Q, you ought to post this discovery to the Newbie FAQ. You put in the effort, you might as well get credit for it.
