Yes. You can colonize planets in the same system as another empire.

The AI settling in on worlds thing is the major reason that I took to 'staking my claim' by putting a small satellite in orbit of any planet that I may want in the future. I found that one small sat will keep the AI from claiming a planet.
Cost: a transport with a sat layer component.

Also remember that many AI races get angry when you have plantes in their systems and even if it is your homesystem and they only have a domed colony in a tiny planet they will still consider it their system.

One way you can avoid the AI getting angry over shared systems is to remove you claim through the borders window. They won't get upset anymore and you can continue to share the system and any beneficial treaties you might have.

Thanks, I never thought of that.
I also had to be told How to remove it. Looking at the map did not help. then someone said,
"Click on the system, remove the BB"

Just a question about placing one sat over a planet.
Is there a way to lauch just one or do I have to only put one on a ship??

Gryphin: Use 2 ships. Fill one, and leave the other empty. Transfer 1 sat, then launch it.

Imperator Fyron , Thanks again, could you just download all of these cool tricks into a database? It would save a lot of question asking
