View Full Version : What Race Do You Play The Most?

Out of all the races, including add on's, which one do you play the most?
I prefer the Xiati the most out of the original races and enjoy playing them as much as possible.

I like to play the Jraenar. They're my favourite of the original races.

I'm starting to use the GTKK Neo Canadians alot lately. I really enjoy that race.

I don't really have one "favorite" race. I used to use the Vorlons a lot. Then I started using the Narns. Now, I sometimes use the Shag'Toth, Breen or Hyach. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I also think that the Xiati are the coolest standard race. It only they weren't purple...

If you want some interesting Messages, load the Thermolian race file up and set it up as an AI. I was watching Deliverance when I did the speech file.

Though i used to play solely with my 2 own races lately i've been playing original races and found them quite the nice. two of my most favorite races are the Sallega and Amon'krie. Sallega mostly, i realy do like their style. i dont usualy play with user-made races, i prefer to play *against* them

In the past I liked the EEEvil race the most, but at the moment the Lego Ship Set has my attention. Reminds me of boyhood days when I'd spent 10 hours a day having lego space fights.

Yeah, lego rocks. Kid's shouldn't be forced to go to school, they should be allowed to play with Lego all day instead. I think we'd get a lot more intelligent, well balanced adults that way. Sort of. Why am I posting here? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
Oh yeah, For multiplayer it just has to be one of my own shipsets, but single play I tend to play a different race every time I play. I often use the Praetorian just to stop the boring little sods coming up as an opponent. I used to do the same thing for the Phong but when you're transferring population you can't read the numbers against their yellow skin. Last few games I've played I've been the Rage. I figure I'm playing Proportions so their killer AI isn't much use, and i may as well be them while I can. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
BTW, in this solo proportions game I am nearly 300 turns in and I still haven't made first contact with a single race!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not in this game. Well, not without a warp point opener anyway=-) I started with just 2 systems and 4 colonisable planets available to me (three of them moons). I researched stellar manip, started destroying/ rebuilding planets to get more real estate and then I built a warp opener. This must be around turn 50 by now=-)
I opened a WP into the next group of connected systems and found it uninhabited. Plenty of stuff to colonise mind you, but then I went bankrupt. My stellar manip fleet had used up all my radioactives, so I had to mothball almost everything and spend 50 turns or so getting my economy back under control. It took me another 50 turns to save up the 100,000 rads needed to unmothball my stellar manip ships.
I eventually did and now i can now run the two stellar manip ships and a few colonisers and a small population mover fleet. I've expanded into and explored half a dozen sytstem Groups and still haven't found any other players.
I have a dozen or so low-population worlds with major cities and metropoliseseses but a very tight economy and really sucky weapons tech. I'm hoping that when I do finally meet up with other species they will have weapons tech and economies way in advance of mine and will be able to give me a good run for my money=-)
I realise that there are loads of ways I could have plyed more efficiently but I'm taking it slow and enjoying myself. I'm half tempted to post a savegame of my first first contact as a scenario...

I often play as a Terran. I guess I identify with them. I think a newbie should play the Terrans -- in addition to the green dots, you have the reinforcement of the planets looking like oxygen to let you know what to colonize.
The race portrait is kind ugly 'tho. The best looking race portrait is prob. the Jarenar, I like being them as well for that reason.

October 4th, 2002, 05:25 PM
I started out by playing the Terrans but I hated the race picture so I substituted the one from neo-Canadians (I think). Then I made my own race called the Antarans (no - not the same a--h---s from MOO2) based loosely on the Terran AI but with a new picture.
Since then I have changed almost all of the race pictures deciding that they were the most godawful things I'd ever seen - except for the Jranaer which aren't so bad.

The stock race I play the most is the Sallega, with Ukratel probably next. Play the Krill once in a while as well. TDM races I play the most are the Klingons, the Earth Alliance, the Romulans, the Colonials and the Narns.
As you can see, I don't finish many games. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

For solo games, I usually play a different race for each game I start. For PBW, I usually play a custom race; the shipsets I've used the most often are the Zedron Empire and the Sharlon Kingdom.

I play either my Pequeninos or Slaanesh.
The best standard race is Norak, IMHO. All ships are beatifull but large fighter sucks.

Original Race:
Ukra Tal
Amon'Krie
Piundon
Why? Cause their ships have windows http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif and I really like the Ukra tal Dreadnought, Starbase, and the Amon'Krie Battlecruiser. You don't want to meet them on a bad mood http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Custom Races:
United Planets Consortium
My Own http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Could post a few small (I mean it) pictures so I could see what you've done?
I don't think any picures are ugly per se, it's just that the portraits have a CGI look that's a little harsh when you first see them. But you get used to it. I really think the design, highlights, patterns are pretty good.
The Jarenar are excellent, the pattern of the Phong skin is interesting, the shadow on the face of the Ukra-Tal(they look evil, but they're not, funny). The CueCappa color scheme seems to make them glow. All pretty cool.

I also generally try to play a new race each time... there are so many excellent shipsets available. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
This is a good opportunity to give "mad props" uhhh... I mean thanks... to the artists behind some of my Favorites:
Narn (great colors and textures)
Eysk (just darn cool)
Ixaris (very alien looking, damn scary)
PaceanOne (beautiful work)
Star Empire of Romii (perfect for the "flying saucer" effect)
Vidrihne (very sweet; especially against the dark backdrop, like nothing else)
So thanks for the great work. I also like many many more, but these seem to stand out for me right now.

In the original game I tend to favor the Terrans (survival of the speceis and all that) though I also like the Xiati and the Norak.
For moddded races I usually use my Borg (perhaps I'll post that race mod some day) And TerranC's Sol Coalition. I replaced the main and population pictures, I can't stand those cartoony pics (no offense Dogscoff), and renamed them as the Technocratic Enclave. Also reworked the physical, society, and history sections a bit. They have since served me well.

My alltime favourite is a shipset unreleased, the asguard that used to be in gallery and schematics on universal shipyards a while back, that looked awesome

Actually, this is not such asimple question:
I usually play one or two shipsets with nice grafics, potential for role-playing but no good AI but I also tent to include into my games some well defined subset of races with vicious AI, attidude and pleasant ships. Do those races count as "..play the most?"

Agree, the design is very cool, but in the system map looks so dark, that's very difficult find the ships... then, never liked to play with them.

Terrans, Krill, and EEE are the normal ones I use the most. Sometimes the Phong but that yellow gets on my nerves. Mostly I use my own custom race however with a shipset based on what races I'm not playing against.
