Go to Start---> Run , then type MSCONFIG , go to startup tab and delete programs you dont want to load at start up. Alternativey, type in run: REGEDIT , then navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
You will see all programs loading at startup on the right window.
Hope this helps:)

Can anyone tell me how in the [explicative deleted] I can get Quicktime to NOT automatically load at startup on my WinXP machine?

Uhhh... not sure. Look in all the options/ preferences boxes on QT itself and make sure it hasn't dropped anyhitng into your startup folder in your start menu.
I hate the way these programs try to take control of your PC. Real is the same and Media player isn't much better.
Personally I use Media Jukebox for everything. It's got an extremely powerful playlisting system, excellent stability and it plays just about any format.

Dogscoff: Yea, those are the first things I checked. No love there.
G: ummmmmm.... Wow. Lots of entries there, but none of them (that I can tell) are related to Quicktime. No love there, either.

QT puts some sort of process in your "autorun" list when it installs. I presume there is some 'normal' way to access your autorun list and remove it, but Gargantua's suggestion is the only way I currently know. Apparently it still runs fine without the process in the background, too, so yo uhave to wonder why it does that other than sheer power grabbing. Yes, all of the major names ar egetting to be very pushy and it's become extremely annoying. I'm using WMP 6.4 and RealPlayer 8.0 and I'm NOT going to upgrade either to the newer, grabbier Versions. I hope some multi-format 'third party' util appears before it becomes too hard to access things with the older players.
MOO 3 was originally going to use QT for the in-game animations but I hear they've had second thoughts and are researching a different option.

Irfanview ( http://www.irfanview.com/english.htm ) is a pretty good viewer; small program, handles just about any format of audio, image, or video, and allows you to easily convert between formats using "Save As".
