View Full Version : PBW Server Email Problem

Apparently, the PBW server has not been sending out all of the emails it is supposed to send. I have not received any of the normal "turn is processing" and "turn has successfully processed" emails from the server for any of the games I am hosting for the past few weeks. Several players in my games have complained that they miss turns because they have not received any emails about them. Is something broken with the PBW server code or something?

Nope, nothing is broken. As it has always been since PBW was started, email is not 100% reliable. Never has been.

I have found that people on some web based emaiol services such as hotmail have more problems that the average. It's also possible that your email server is filtering them and thinking they are spam. One of the things about the emails from PBW is different emails are given different "Sent from's". This is a convenience for the Users as it simplifies responding to them and having them go to the right people. But this is also a tactic that spammers use so sometimes email servers will block them at times.

It's also possible that the email server that PBW uses for sending them is losing them. This is one of those things we just have to deal with though.

The Hotmail server does not block spam emails; it promotes them.

Geoschmo<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It's definitely not hotmail, or any other webmail-related issue. My ISP-based email account doesn't reliably get those emails either; nor does it reliably NOT get them, so it's not a spam-filter issue IMO. Luckily, I check PBW at least twice daily. 8)
