I have an empire with 100 planets, bloodthirsty happiness type and currently at war with 2 players, i have recently lost 3 planets to enemy actions, worlds i had captured a few turns earlier. I have not won any battles this turn, however my whole empire is up in arms and in many cases rioting if not just angry for some reason. Any ideas here, or if not, for future games.

All I can suggest is browsing through the happiness.txt file and seen if any other modifiers apply. Losing a planet does not seem to have a big negative on happiness for a bloodthirsty race. If it was captured however it is a big negative. As is losing battles and making peacful treaties.

Put troops on all your planets. 10 or so, even without weapons, will steadily help. 40-50 will give a definite rise even in the face of happiness problems, and 100+ will tend to ensure a bunch of renewing happiness. Of course, putting some points in Happiness during race design helps. Losing a several planets, ships, and/or battles turn after turn can cause a major happiness crisis throughout the empire.

Yeah, the SE4 happiness system is screwey. Try not to take Bloodthirsty in the future; it is a bad happiness type overall. I have found that 120 police troops on every planet will keep the people jubilant in almost any situation.

Maybe I'll upload my HappinessMod tonight. Basically just creates an Earthling type.
They don't like troops on planets. Makes them angry. They hate losing ships, planets and anything else. They also really hate battles in their systems or enemy ships in their systems.

Try playing neutral, without using troops. They dislike everything else except no treaty and non-intercourse.

However, I do disagree with not taking BloodThirsty. I do it all the time and it seems to benefit me. Of course, I never make/accept treaties. However, the Neutral happiness type is a challenge to play - I have to stay on top of those guys every turn or they'll riot!

No. Temporal Happiness Facility rocks. You build it and the population goes instantly to indefferent to Jubilant!
