This would be my wish for SEV. I know a lot of people out there like the ground combat as it is, simple, and think that it should stay this way since it is a "Space" game.

I however would love to see an option for Tactical/Strategic Ground Combat. Strategic would be the current way of resolving ground combat for those who wish to speed up play.

Tactical would open up a screen depicting the planets surface. Battlefield size would be limited to planet size. Example, Tiny Planet would be 5x5, Medium would be 15x15 (the amount of facilities that can be constructed on a Non-Dome planet.)

As far as the surface it would contain a few simple terrain types, Open, Liquid, Rough, Caynons etc...with some basic modifiers to combat as well as depict the existing facilites.

Troops could be dropped in increments 0f say 10-100 at different locations. They may or may not drop on a well defended location.

I have been working on a few samples using WGDK and it works pretty well, Battles dont Last too long and would be lots of fun for us Armchair Generals as well as Space Admirals.

Anyway...just wanted to throw that out there.

sounds cool, would have to be a game option though as im sure if you personally generaled each battle you woudl do much better than "strategic"

It's what "The War Engine" evolved from, IIRC.
