I bought SEIV gold and patched it up to 1.78. I had loaded a bunch of mods from the CD and the web and was happily working on some of my own when I started getting "File Not Found" right after I ended the first turn. At first I stripped out all the mods and still got the message The unmodded game ran fine but the moment I tried running from a mod folder I got the error message. I deleted and reinstalled the game and still got the message. I copied the unmodded files to a separate folder and tried running from that folder and I still get the message. Can any one tell me what is going on? What file is it looking for?

There has been several changes to the SE:IV data files since the release of the mods on the CD. Many of them are out of date. Try to find the most recent Versions of the Mods you want to use!

At the moment the mods are the least of my concerns. I cannot get the game to run except pure vanilla code out of the main SEIV folder. If I just call a folder a mod and change my path file to run form it I get this error EVEN IF THE FILES ARE IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL (UNMODDED). This just happened out of the blue after weeks of running fine.

I am just trying to get it to where I can start working on my mods again.

A mod folder must always have a data directory with all the necessary data files (modded or unmodded) for it to work properly.

I understand that but:
The game will run with the data files I currently have. If I copy those same data files into another folder and launch the game from there it doesn't work. The files are the same hench my confusion.

Are those data files in a directory within the mod directory, i.e.:

modname/data

If not, then that might be your problem.

Yes they are in MODS/DATA.

Keep in mind that this was all working fine one day and broke the next. Right now I have no mods, I am using just the SEIV data copied into MODS folder and the game fails.

Hmm...

I'm not sure what the problem could be. I was going to suggest perhaps one of the files is missing or not copied. As you describe it, it should work fine.

Are you calling to "Mods" in Path.txt, or "C:\Space Empires IV\Mods" (assuming SE4 is the install folder)? It should be "Mods". It is a relative path, not an absolute path.

I am calling "MODS" in path.txt

What I did today....

I removed anything remotely related to SEIV from my computer (after burning my mods to CD)
I uninstalled SEIV.

I installed SEIV GOLD from the CD. Version 1.60

I applied the SE4 Patch and nnow have the game at 1.78

I created a mod folder called MODS.

I copied all of the unmodded data into the MODS folder.

I changed my path.txt in the root SEIV folder.

I launched a game.

When I hit the end turn button after my first turn I get an error message "File Not Found" and the game hangs.

I would appreciate any help whatsoever.

Is it possible that this issue is related to missing AI files?

kevlord,

We are all kind of just guessing here. Can you be more precise about the error message you are getting? "File not found" is not an error I have ever seen associated with SEIV. Is it "Unable to load blah blah blah..." or something else like that? The precise wording of the error is important.

Does the error show up as a black and blue SEIV window, or does it show up as a grey "windows" type error window. Does it perhaps say which file is not being found?

If it's a black and blue SIEV window the error could be so long that you cannot see the actual file name if your pc display is set to 800x600. If that is the case, set your display to 1024x768 and run up till you get the error again. Hopefully that will allow you to read the entire error message including the file that is missing.

Try to install the TDM-ModPack and see, if the error still occurs. If not, something is fishy within your MOD-folder. Have a look at the TDM-ModPack and put the folders of your orders exactly where they are in the TDM. I once had a similar problem and I couldn't find the problem for hours: In the end, I didn't put the "races" folder to the right spot and everything went belly up until I moved it were it belonged.

The error pops up in a windows type window. It has Error as a title and in the window itself it simply says "File Not Found".

Where do I find this TDM-Modpack?

Kevlord,

Do you by chance have a "History" folder in your Mod folder? If so delete it, that is your problem.
