Definitely. Buy it, become hooked, kiss your known life goodbye, buy a chair that flushes and you can play all day.

[I had to bite my tongue. My first urge was to respond: "Does a frog have a watertight a$$ho!e?" heeheh.]

Slick.

I guess for some it would depend on their economic situation, but for me, it DEFINITELY was well worth the money. SE4 has been my primary game since I left those #%$@$%^&*^*%%$ at MS/Turbine running Asheron's Call (@$10/month).

Obviously you have not read all the great reviews about the game. The price tag for this game is a great one for what you get. \

1. A game that is a two years old and counting but still actively played and bought by many
2. Game support is still very active by Malfador and Shrapnel
3. A vivid and active fan base
4. Mods, ship sets, and more

The game its self is as addictive today as it was when I first played the demo back in August 2000. The game has so much to offer it is pathetic that any one need to ask is it worth the price tag, but common because people just don't believe that an independant game company could produce such a fantastic game. (No offense)

I was skeptical at first, but after playing the demo, I understood what the game was, and jumped, rather egarly I might add, into buying this game, and the GOLD Version.

Read some of the game reviews for SEIV Gold, PC Gamer magazine even ran a second review, and ranked it higher than the first great review. That was a first for the magazine, and a true tribute to how great this game really is.

I hope you invest in the game, as you will more than likely enjoy it very much over the next many years.

I have a friend who says this game is the greatest game ever. I agree with him. He uses Brilliant to describe many of the features in this game. The ablity to change the game to suit yourself is unmatched.(a windows like interface to change all the changable prameters would make this game unequaled)I got hooked on SEIV and the game just gets better and better. The ablity in a game to come up with new dirty tricks is pure delight. On the fun meter this game is off the scale well worth the 39$ I paid for it. And the good people I have met playing the game is virtually priceless.

Just pray they ship the thing in a jewel case.
Failing that, pray for divine intervention.

I just got my copy of se4g, the disk was in two pieces because some incompotent/lazy idiot decided to save 10 cents.

When my SE4/G was shipped to me (just this past October!), it was Priority mailed tome in a rigid cardboard Mailer (a box); no jewel case required.

The game is definately worth it. I have enjoyed it immensely. In fact, the two Space Empires games are the only ones that I've bought in the Last two years, with the single exception of NHL2001.

It would have been nice to have a jewel case though, both discs that Shrapnel sent me ended up getting warped in the mail!

Yep. SE4 Gold is definitely worth the price, and then some, compared to the pre-Gold Version. The improvements in Gold make a universe of difference, so to speak.

I already know what a great game SE IV is. I've had it for about 8 months. I just wanted to know if Gold was that much better. It sounds like it is.

Thanks

Gee, I could not even begin to tell you my ratio for SEIV, all mods and stuff considered well under .20 an hour. Probably under a dime by now. That's with the purchase of both Regular and Gold flavored....

That's an excellent value, and well worth it.

is it possiable to create a mod for v 1.49 so that it has the same upgrades as the gold Version?

No. It is not possible. There are many hard code changes that were made between the two editions.

Hmm.... If Microsoft Windows XP is worth, say, $100, then SEIV Gold is worth at least $3900!

I ordered Gold today since Shrapnel was kind enough to send me a 15% off coupon for X-Mas. So if I don't get XP what should I get? I'm going to throw ME as far as a can and I have to replace it with something. Thanks.

SgtBigG, that 15% off was nice of them! My suggestion in WinSE or Win 2000. Both are much better IMHO than XP! yuck!

My only recommendations on MS OSes:

Don't touch 95 (too old, not enough support) or ME (Take Win98. Now break most everything that works right)

My choice is Win 98SE. Less bloatware = fast/efficient/less annoying. Personally, I like my operating system to do as little as necessary to run _my_ programs with as little interference as possible.

My second choice is Win 2000 Professional (not Server). More bloat than 98SE, but doesn't require a reboot when something crashes. One of its best improvements, IMO, is it has a slightly better Version of Notepad...

BTW, did you know that the SE3 demo works perfectly fine on Win3.1?
