Most of my pre-Posts before the forum went down seems to be gone (those just before I mean).
is the forum restarted from a backup?

If I for example search for Engineers in the Last 5 days i get alot of answers from the LURK thread but I don't find any Posts there.
Also if I search on my registred number I get answers from threads where I don't have any Posts right now(but where I posted right before the system went down).
Strange this, does the search system search in another copy than what is shown? (Yes I pressed the update button in my browser, altough it's set to "always update")

Strange, now all the Posts has reemerged from somewhere??

why are you talking to yourself?
Kamog
November 30th, 2002, 09:30 AM
Probably because nobody was answering.
It does make sense to have a backup of the forum; wouldn't want to lose all these thousands of Posts and data due to some accident or something.

Is this the second time it has gone down this month? I remember it being down earlier this month also for some time.

Yes, it seems so; it has been down twice this month that I know of: once on Nov. 21 and again on Nov 28.

Yes, I agree; I talk to myself a lot too - it helps me think. People do give me strange looks from time to time though.
Well, talking to oneself is OK so long as you don't receive answers from "out there" when no human around you has really answered. (Hmm, or is that a good thing?...) Anyway, that rarely happens.
People who are alone a lot tend to talk to themselves more.

It often takes me two or three guesses to coax it into finding a thread that I know is here somewhere.
To keep people from thinking your crazy when you talk to yourself, get a cell phone. Then you'll just be annoying. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

One day, a cell phone will be miniaturized to fit in a tiny chip, and some people will have them implanted in their heads. When that happens, you won't know if someone is crazy or if they're talking on the phone.

Wow! Now there will be people paying big bucks to appear to be talking to themselves, and others paying even more money and undergoing surgery so that they can hear voices in their heads... what has technology done to us!?!

i have an idea, a small ear implant that allows you to give mental commands and accesses any thread on this forum and reads the content for you. You can then dictate responses.
And members could submit their own voice style to be different when heard http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Oh, then for each race style, in addition to having the different speech text, we'll also have a voice file for each type of message. The sound will be played when you read the message from another race. So Klingons will speak in the Klingon language, we'll have the Borg saying "Resistance is futile" in the Borg voice, and so on.

Maybe if you get a fax, you'll see the image in your mind. Hey, maybe you can be surfing the web in your head, too. Perfect for those boring meetings! Or play SEIV in your head, nobody will ever know what you're doing.

An earring may not look good, but I would rather go with an earring then sacrifice a tooth! Plus, an earring can be easily removed / upgraded if necessary.

Yeah, I really DON'T want to wear any earrings. I'd be happy with a cell phone built into my watch. And salad is good for you! As long it's not a Xantus salad.

Yeah, I was on the forum Last night, too, when it went down. I just received this cool new avatar from David, and I tested it, and it worked, and I was really happy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Just when I was about to post more stuff, the forum went down. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
I don't think they announce when it's going to go down, at least not that I know of. I just kind of thought that it was a random problem... but I could be wrong.
