If there is a minefield in a nebula (or storm) that I cannot see through, will the mines still detonate when enemy ships pass through that sector, or will I need to have the sensor capabilites for that type of storm (or nebula) for the minefield to work?

AFAIK, mines work everywhere http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Yep... Mines: the poor man's sensors. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
If you scatter some at each of the warppoints in that nebula system, you can even tell where the enemy ships came from.

Naturally, you get an extra bonus if the "passing through" player doesn't have/have enough minesweepers. Even funnier if you lay more mines in that sector after it has been "cleared", and watch things go BOOM! One great reason to build space stations in nebula systems...to pose a continual annoyance!

funny you should mention that, because that's EXACTLY what I have done.
