View Full Version : Increasing the population limit?

I have recently started working on a small mod for SEIV, one in which I was thinking about making without being able to colonize Gas Giants. I do however, want it to be possible to create orbiting habitats around Gas Giants and this I was planning on creating in a fashion similar to Ringworlds och Dyson spheres. But I have come across a question when it comes to this: I want it to be possible to create more habitats, thereby increasing the population limit, facility slots and such on the Gas Giant.
My question:
Is it possible to create something like this with the latest patch, i.e. a gradual increase in the population maximum and facility slots?

No. Those things are fixed, as determined by the entries in PlanetSize.txt.

which is a shame. I'd love to see facilities that can increase pop limit...

Thanks for the quick reply.
Guess I'll have to fake it by creating different Habitats similar to Ringworlds with increasing capacity.

But you can only build Ringworlds around stars... what are you going to do, make all the gas giants into stars?

You could just imagine that colonies "on" a gas giant are actually orbiting it, without changing anything. That's what the Gas Giant Colony component's descriptive text actually says, anyway.

I imagine Gas giant colonies as floating cities... The colony module pics look a bit like balloons, and it explains the domed/undomed distinction better than orbital colonies.

SJ, that's how I always interpreted them, too. I didn't notice the slighty different wording in the description until this thread made me think to look.
One could alternately imagine that the picture has you looking down at an orbital facility with the planet behind it.
