View Full Version : HELP - Movement Chart needed !!

Greetings !!

I need the movement chart for simultaneous movements - by this I mean which days a ship with a speed of X moves.

I need this to know if my vessel, which is farther away from a target will reach that target ahead or behind a second vessel which goes slower BUT is closed to the same target.

If I remember correctly, each movement speed will correspond to movements in certain days in the month. Does a chart of these movements exists for SE4 !??! (it reminds me of the Starfleet Battles Impulse table - which I can't locate on te web)

THANKS !

No Chart. It's a formula. 30 days in a month (one turn). x is speed of ship. 30/x is how many days between moves.

Example, ship A has a speed of 6, ship B has a speed of 7. 30/6=5, 30/7=4.2.

Ship A will move on day 5 day 10, day 15, etc.

Ship B will move on day 5 or day 4 depending on what the game does with the partial numbers. Not sure if it rounds up or down or whatever.

How ironic...I'm currently snacking on Ritz Crisps. Now if I only had some EZ-Cheese... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Take your ship/fleet speed and divide it into 30. Your ship will move every 5 days, for example, at speed 6. What I'm not sure of is if it would move on 1,6,11,16,21,and 26, or 5,10,15,20,25, and 30.

Since I wasn't sure how the game handled fractions either, I decided to find out when the game moved each speed. In a simultaneous game, I took Propulsion Expert, then created a ship of each speed from 2 to 13, lined them up, moved them as far as each could go in one month, and then watched the movement log. Here are my results. (The 'movement day' is the day that the ship ends up in a new sector.)

I bet the progression continues if you use an EPP prior to moving.

Something to note:
It is not based on how far the ship is ordered to go.
It is based on the potential speed of the ship.
A subtle differance.

The formula for the time at which movement occurs is [30/ship speed][Movement number] rounded down

Also, simultaneous games only support ship movement up to 30. It won't bother you unless you're using some heavily modded stuff, but it's still a limit. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Good point, Gryph. And I had forgotten about EPP, since I use it so infrequently (like never). That's what I get for trying to think at two in the morning.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

*Knock, Knock*

Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, no need to be alarmed - this is official business. I am hereby commandeering the good info in this thread for the Newbie FAQ. Credit will be given to the authors.

*Flashes around his shiny official looking badge far to quickly to be read*

Please stand back while I take pictures.

Excuse me, madam? ... Why yes, this is a Phased Poloron bLaster in my holster. The handle is tooled ivory. I have never needed to use it in the line of duty.

Ok, ok. Enough chit chat. Thank you, you may all return to your normal business.

*Leaves, closes door, and trots away to the Newbie FAQ thread wondering what paragraph this stuff goes into*

Some in game observations:

EPM works first and the ship will move every day until the EPM is exhausted.

Late in the game with fast ships, I have often seen ships move on day one. In fact more often than on day two.

No testing here, just my game observations.
