View Full Version : AI problems with Create Black Hole?

I designed a Create Black Hole Ship for my EEE. It seems that the ship is never used by the AI. It travels through the quandrant, makes itself comfortable in the central stellar mass, but nothing more.
After realizing this behaviour I switched the empire to human control with "complete AI on". Again the minister moves the ship into the sun and then instead of blowing up the whole system a message appears: "Ship XYZ does not have the required supply to power the component". Well, it is equipped with a quantum reactor, supply shouldn't be a problem.
Next test: After receiving the message about lacking supplies I switched off minister control and used the device manually. No problem, the black hole is created.
However, every time when I take control over the ship it is still cloaked (it is equipped with stealth armor).

Are there any known AI problems with the create black hole device in combination with the quantum reactor and/or stealth armor?
Any advice will be appreciated.

I don't know much. But you do need to un-cloaked or de-cloaked to do anything. Or atleast I think that is right. So the prob might be the AI doesn't know it has to be un-cloaked!

Try giving it to a neutral race. Maybe they will know what to do

Cloaking devices on such ships is a bad idea. Try to remove the cloak and see what happens.

My uncloaked create black hole ships never reach their targets, almost every enemy ship comes after it (it seems that the the AIs knows its abilities and goals).
They are not escorted and easy prey, even a DN full of armor, shields and max movement points.

That is an interesting observation because I have seen AI empires using star destroyers (with stellar nucleonic torpedos) successfully rather frequently. Some of the designs had the cloaking ability, some not. Therefore I don't think the problem is the cloaking but rather the creation of a black hole itself. I never tried to make AI's create black holes (because I think the AI has more difficulties to handle a black hole system than a human player).

Will try that.
