Is there a way to make the AI more agressive
in single player SE Gold?

Also make him build more ships and attack more
often.

What effect does making the personality number
higher have?

Sorry if these are old topics but I'm relatively
new to SE4 Gold.

Happy Christmas

However, you got much better AIs in the new scenario/mod forum:
There is the TDM-modpack coming with lots of improved AIs or the newest Versions of player written AIs (from Master Belisarius, God Emperor, Alpha Kodiak, Atraikius (to name just a few)).

Also make him build more ships and attack more often. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The modded AIs do exactly that.

What effect does making the personality number higher have? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">There are four "personality Groups". Each with a certain probability that one of the races of this group is chosen as a random computer player. A race in group 4 hat a 10% chance to be chosen, a race in group 1 30% (you can find these numbers in the settings.txt).

Last but not least: Welcome to the board.

Hi,
many thanks for the quick reply.
I've downloaded some trek races to try
and I find (as a trek fan) it provides
more atmosphere.

Can I swop some of these new AI's for the
trek ones? I realise that the tech files
maybe different but the settings, general,
politics files should be swoppable.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been playing
this type of game for some time but only
recently tried SE4.

I do not know much about the AIs of Atrocities' great shipsets, but the Klngons, Romulans are part of the TDM-Modpack (AI is written by God Emperor) and updated Versions of both races are available the new scenario/mod forum.

You can always swap AI files between any shipsets inside a single mod (TDM qualifies as "unmoded" SE in this respect). Just keep track of any changes in AI_general file (like changing homeworld atmosphere and racial traits (organic, tempora...) ). And wait for the next SE patch. We have been promised the MAJOR boost for AI.

Thanks for all the help.
On the Game setup screen, where you create an
empire and add it, can you create all the empires
with different advantages and traits and if added
to the game list will the computer use them.

Yes, it will use them. Add them to your game, click "Edit" and make sure that "Compzter Controlled" is "Controlled by Computer" and "Use Race Minister Style" is "Using Style from Race".
Try this link for more agressive AIs:

If you want a very aggressive AI race, study the Rage. They are one of the most aggressive I've played against.

Thanks for the help.
I've played a few games of SE4 Gold and after
reading the Posts on this forum I've experimented
with the data files a bit.

I'd appreciate it if someone could explain the
settings below:

AI Fleets:
%fleets to use for defense - if I set this lower
would the AI attack
more?

%ships for fleets - if less would the AI use
raider ships in attacks?

AI Settings:
max systems to defend - 3 seems to be usual but
why not defend more?

max maint % of revenue - I saw a post on this and
I've tried setting to
150 (instead of 80),
does anyone have any
idea if this makes the
AI build more?

Thnaks again, hope you had a pleasant Christmas.
