View Full Version : Planet Recon

I have a light cruiser near a enemy planet without any enemy ships nearby.
I'd like to send it on a reconnaisance mission of the planet.
Recon only, as the planet may have defenses which may terminate its existence.
I know I can use the 'Don't Get Hurt' Strategy to have the my light cruiser head for the corner, but what if the planet produces a cruiser?
I'd like my light cruiser to 'actively' enter into combat with the enemy cruiser and if it survives then head for the hills (a corner).
Anybody have any ideas on a workable solution/strategy? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I don't know if this is important or not, but my light cruisers has DUC's5 and PDC's. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Also the enemy planet is unlikely to have mines.

Create a new strategy and set it to not target planets, then give your LC this new strategy prior to sending to the planet.

If the LC has nothing better to target, it will target anything.

So, keeping the light cruisers strategy but only modifying it to not attack planets will cause it to run for the hills (or at least not come into range of the planets weapons) in the absence of any ships?
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif It is interesting that you (Gandalph) are the first person to respond to my inquiry.
About 5 turns ago a number of your destroyers were pursuing the ships of this AI race through a system owned by me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
Never seen anything like it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif They were going like a bat out of hell with entering one WP of my system and exiting at another WP. And there you were, 'hot' on their tails.
Did you win the battle?

I just tested the strategy I mentioned and it does work.
Edit - I just checked and it's only 2, Survivor and TGE

Quite right, it does work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
With no ship in the sector, it mills around it's starting point
If a ship is in the sector, it 'actively' engagaes it.
If it defeats the ship, it mills around its Last position in the combat area.
Thanx
