What do we have to research to get all the components for fighters and troops?

Like, I know we have to research:
1) Fighters 1 to 4 (5 - if you want the heavy carrier)
2) Troops 1 to 3
3) Smaller Weapons

Is there anything else that needs to be researched?

for troops, Troop Weapons gives the Ground Cannon series.

Slick.

And
1) Planetary Weapons 1-3 gives Cluster Bombs
2) Shield Damaging Weapons 1-3 gives Shield Depleters
3) Tractor-Repulsor Weapons 7-9 gives Graviton Beams

You need some sort of weapons techs for Fighters too, or you get no weapons. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

What would I have to research for that?

Nearly any weapons tech. The Small Weapons tech combined with other weapons techs gets fighter weaponry.

Which can also be used on troops. And on troops, rate of fire does not matter, so the slower-firing small weapons may be better for troops.

Thanks PvK and Fyron. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

But not all weapons can be used? Y/N.

Is there an easy way of finding out if researching a weapon will provide a "mini-weapon"?

Well, you could right-click on the tech area in the research queue and see if it says something like "Small Depleted Uranium Cannon" or "Small Anti-matter Torpedo." That is, if you've already researched Smaller Weapons. If not, then you already know there are a Small DUC and a Small AMTorp. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

PvK<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">PvK, this is an interesting comment.

My notes show that small Weapons all have a rate of fire of 1 except for:

a) Kamakazi Warheads = 0
b) Cluster bombs, Anti-matter torpedoes, Graviton beams = 2
c) Rocket pods = 30

Do they all have a rate of fire of one (except for the Kamakazi Warhead which cannot reload)?

Or I can start a game with everything researched and pick out the mini-weapons as you have described. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

tbontob, yes, they have ROF 1 except in SE4 Gold (and I think in 1.49 too, though not in some earlier SE4 patches), Small Rocket Pods are fighter-only weapons. If you modded them to allow them on troops though, they would fire every ground combat round.

There are other troop weapons too under the racial techs, that this applies to. For example, organic acid weapons.

Thanx Krsqk http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">OK....

I started a game and all the small weapons are there.

It says DUCs can be used on troops and fighters

I have researched DUCs'5 and Troops2

In trying to design my troops, there are no weapons to select. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

What's going on? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

Whoa....

My notes say I can get small DUCs for my Troops if I Research fighters.

Is this true? Doesn't make a lot of sense if it is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Yeah, DUC's are the exception - instead of researching Projectile Weapons and Smaller Weapons to get Small DUC's, you need to research Projectile Weapons and Fighters http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Thanks Ed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

But is it the 'only' exception?
