I uploaded a Space Empires 4 based scrolling shooter game in the scenario/mod forum....check it out. It's fun for about 2 minutes, but I really enjoyed making it.

my first try was around 1400
my second was 2250
would be nice if the game stopped at the end and diplayed the score a little longer. hmm, maybe 'insert coin' (press F2).

SE Spinoffs I'd like to see:
A better side scroller(yours is great, but, im talking something with multiple ships, weapons, something like the R-Type Series)
Drushocka Man
A MMORPG set in the SE universe...something like Starfury but massively multiplayer...hell, or even JUST multiplayer lol.
Just some ideas for MM or some deranged fans to look into ;D
BTW:kudos,on the great game! keep up the good stuff!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Would be cool if there was scroller game like this that looked for and used any extra shipsets in your malfador/se4/pictures/races folder. It could read the AI_general file as well for hints on how each race should behave and how mean they are, for example:
-races which take attack bonuses have more accurate weapons.
-ones which take defensive bonuses dodge around a lot and are harder to hit.
-Races that take construction bonuses would appear in swarms.
-Organic, crystalline weapons etc for those races that take them... this would be really cool.
And yeah, I'd love to see Druk-man. Waka waka waka waka...

How about a Space Empires mod for Dungeon Odyssey, where you can play a character in the Space Empires universe and encounter all the aliens from SE4?

AFAIK there is only one custom mod released and that one isn't even very good...

back on topic: I just 'accidently' discovered that your ship can not only move right-left, but also forward-back. Well, that makes evading those shots a lot easier...

Im working on such a DO mod. Its called SE the Oddysey. Go to the SE Legacies forums and check it out in the DO section.

Okay,
As per Dogscoff's request, I have done a Drushoka Pac-man game. I'll be uploading it shortly, just use the arrow keys to move the Drushoka around.
As far as the next game goes....I think I'm going to move on to something a little more complex and less spoofish.
In the meantime, enjoy.

have the Eee, be EEEvil, and turn into EEE, when you eat the mega pellet thing lol.
For the next game, if you dont mind my suggestions, try a side scroller game in the fashion of your first, with the player using a ship (you can customise the graphics idealy) and bLasting away alien (Xi'chung perhaps?) filth! Make it in the style of R-type and other side scrolling shooters.
Id recommend making all the graphics moddable if possible, just to fill our need for different targets lol.
Just some ideas, probably bad ones too...

Why do the weapons of your ship randomly stop firing sometimes? There is nothing consistent about when and why it happens, so it seems like a bug to me.

im not very good, so i was wondering if the better players can tell me if there is anything beyond the double missile? the only controls are arrows and spacebar, right? i recently discovered that you can hold the spacebar down.

If there is anything else after that I do now know as I haven't made it past that point yet.
You are correct to the only controls. Just the arrows and spacebar.

My high score so far is 2285. It's always those light cruisers firing diagonally that kill me in the end. There's too many shots flying around and I can't dodge them all. Once I lose one ship, my other lives don't Last long because it's pretty hard by that time.
Noticed that F4 switches between full screen and a window view. F1 brings up an empty info screen (handy for pausing the game). You can move diagonally by pressing an up/down key in combination with a left/right key (e.g. up and left to move diagonally up and to the left). Moving down is slower than moving up, which makes sense.

I've noticed that when I increase color depth from the 65k I use normally to 16M instead of looking distorted, pics look "underlined" with distorted details, but everything works too slow.
Maybe it's just my outdated machine, but there should be a way to solve this.

Have you tried the game in windowed mode?
Hit f4 to toggle between fullscreen and windowed.
Give it a try if you haven't already, and let me know.

I hope to be able to find the time, but I am also working on a serious turn-based strategy game, and beta-testing. I just got a new system and it's running Windows XP and im porting everything from my old system still....like 30 gigs of graphics and resources. Oh, and I have a full time job and I'm married, so I don't have a ton of free time. But, I'd like to make the MEE game with every shipset SEIV has ever seen.

THAT would be time intensive. can it be extensible with external modules? for example, can the EXE simply reference the \pictures\races directory for its images? it would be slower loading, but performace should be the same, i would guess.
of course, it sounds like you have SO much free time on your hands, you will probalby be overwhelmed just trying to decide how to spend it all. I'm having a hard enough time just making games from scratch right now, I will admit that I used existing source code to make the other two , much less being able to make them editable. I'm trying to make a game from the ground up now, using all original art and sounds. It sounds impossible, but, if I win the lottery, I'll actually have the time to do it before computers are cyber-neural nets.

Yes, the Drukman *I thought it said Drunkman when I first saw it* is a bit hard to control; it gets stuck when trying to turn; although the EEE battlecruisers don't seem to get stuck as often as I do.

my best is 5710, so you have something new to shoot for.
i have not been able to set a higher score in a while, so im thinking that its about the best i can do. of course, i probably wont stop trying at least until i beat 6k.
So where are the add on packs for different race sets, or the modular Version? or the fabled "Terrans go MEE" Version?
