Ok, I'll admit it. I like BIG games. Lots of empires, lots of wars, stuff flying every which way. The problem with big games though is they take so darn long. With 20 people chances are pretty good that at any particular time someone is gonna be unable to play for whatever reason.
It shouldn't have to be that way.
So I am gonna give this a try. Not too fancy. No big "hook". It's not a theme game. Just a game with lot's of players in a small quadrant so there is lot's of oppotunity for conflict, and we are gonna keep it moving fast.

Other game settings:
Game will use the No AI Mod to alleiviate the problem of missed turns.
24 hour turns, no exceptions. If you can't do 24 hours turns, please don't join. If you need to go on vacation, you can find a replacment. If you can't find a replacment you can set your queues up and hope for the best.
No Stellar Manipulation
No tech trading. Since I can't restrict ship or planet trading I will allow it. I am not going to babysit everyone. This will be a casual, fun game.
No surrender. If someone quits we will try to find a replacment, or we'll let the empire rot and the remaining players will gobble it up. If someone quits and gifts all their planets to someone else to get around the no surrender clause, the person remaining in the game should refuse the gift. You can't refuse surender, but you can turn down a gift. If you don't the rest of us will probably go MEE on your butt. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">

Geo - Count me in. This is just my type of game: small in area but with lots of action. I'm looking forward to playing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I'll give it a shot as well. I can keep up with the 24 hours with no problems. I'll just be one of the first players to be out of it is all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But I will give it my best.

So, I was thinking about this some more. Trying to make it more attractive to people so I can get 20.
I like the idea of 20 empires on a small map cause it shold cause a lot of "interaction" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But this could make you very suceptible to a bad start. If you are unlucky enough to get no correct atmosphere, or even no correct type planets in your home system, you are going to be at a severe disadvantage to the players that get a nice juicy planet or two to colonize. This is true in every game, but maybe this format would make it even more so.
So I was thinking, what if we made it so you had all three colony techs from the start of the game? Would that smooth out things so no one was totally crippled? There would still be some with more planets than others, but at least then you shouldn't have anybody with only their homeworld to work with.

It is a nice idea though too bad that I do not find the time every day.

I'm in! Settings are insignificant for me.
Ragnarok, don't be so pessimistic. I'm sure you're much more experienced player than me (look at the post count!) so at least you're likely not the first one out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Good settings except for the small galaxy.
I prefer large ones, when you have room to develop and where combat is quickly a high tech thing.
When I have my destroyer firing its DUC level5 to its foe, I feel like a neanderthal throwing his stone axe toward his enemy.
I'll wait till you set up the same game with a large galaxy.

I have some ideas for that Spoon. But if I am not able to do what I am attempting, I will consider your offer as a backup plan. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif We have some time as the game isn't likely to start for a couple weeks unless we get a rush of players real soon.

KOTH battles on a grander scale. I guess I will give it a shot as well.

Yes, several KOTH players are in the game. Including the current King, Preacherman. But if you want in you better grab a spot. It's almost full. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
If anyone tries to join and it's full, drop me an email or post something here. I want 20 players and the tendancy is for a person or two to drop out before the game starts. If that happens I will have a list of alternates.

Ok, Preacherman had to withdraw before the game started so a spot has opened up. We've got 19 of 20 spots full and 18 of 19 empires uploaded so this game is going to start soon. Just need one more player to join.

I missed the first go-around to join up, but just saw an open slot in this game. I wanted to make sure I'm not joining up as an empire (Star Wolves) that has already been destroyed.
Please let me know how to proceed from here.

Welcome. The empire is not dead, although I don't know their current condition. I have accepted you into the game and I will email you with the password, since that feature is broken currently. Assuming the password is correct, you can download and play the turn and see what condition the empire is in. If you feel it worth giving a go simply play and upload your turn. If the empire is to dead to make worth playing let me knwo and I'll mark you finished so noone else tries to take it over.
If the password I email you is not correct let me know and we'll get it reset for you and you can start playing next turn.

Password worked, and the empire is alive, although things are VERY CRAMPED!! (20 empires, only 26 TOTAL SYSTEMS!!--and those extra 6 are probably nebulas or asteriods.) I don't think this'll be a 100+ turn game (at least for most of us).
Thanks for letting me join up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
