Hi guys. I have a question to do with ship positioning for combat. Is there a particular order where ships are positioned for combat, or is it just random where ships are placed? Some times they are far apart, others the ships are almost on top of each other. In the second case the advantage of longer range weapons is lost. Thanks

When you start a battle in "normal" space (in the middle of a map) then your ships will start on different sides of the "battlefield". Or "far apart" as you mentioned.
If battle starts on a warp point, then the ships will be close together. Or "on top of each other", again, as you mentioned.
Does this answer your question?

Another consideration is where you enter the battle from (non-warp point). If you enter the sector from the corner, thats where you appear on the combat screen. Sometimes it might be better to spend an extra movement point to enter from the side instead of from the corner, so you don't have to monkey around getting your ships back into formation.
