Server is up and running, but something is hosed with the interface and can't get into the game admin screens to do anything. Graphic UI isn't working at all. I have turned off the automatic processing fo rth etime being until we can figure out what's going on. You may be able to email your turns in, but you wont be able to upload them, or download them.

It seems to work perfect for me.
You have fixed the problem I assume?
I just uploaded and I've gotten an automatic turn processed.
(Btw, Geo check your e-mail at dayton_dragons@yahoo.com)

Darn, now it doesn't work.
I See, I though t you had posted 21.30 as was th etime on the shrapnel post and my clock at home was 22.30.
But you had posted just before me, I didn't think of the time difference, tired I guess!
I hope you'll get it going soon.
(If it doesn't get up before the end of the week - all NGC2 players: The emergency PBW site for you is up and running while the PBW server is down. Whne the server works ok the emergency site will close again.)

Yes, email seems to work fine.
On the text side, you cannot access the uploads, downloads, forum etc. Most especially you cannot access game admin. This is pretty much what Geoschmo said. Umm, this seems to apply only to the games you are in; I can access games I'm not in, even games where I am "pending join". I guess that explains why I haven't been accepted by the owner; he can't get to his admin screen.
Oh, and thanks G, for setting everything to ALPU. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I can't get any game listings. Either all games or open games. So, it's not just admin problem.

I am getting undeliverable Messages trying to send a turn for 2024 via email, so I would say email is hit and miss.

Ahhh, this explains all these JSP errors I keep getting... I had just updated my box with a bunch of patches and stuff and thought I'd hosed something - 2 hours later it occurs to me to check this forum and sho-nuff.. sheesh, sometimes us Linux types OVER ANALYZE things LOL

I hope they keep good backups. PBW has gotten a lot of publicity lately (along with SE IV itself) due to the MOO 3 fiasco, and it may be that some hackers out there have decided to prove how 'clever' they are by messing with it.

This seems to be a weird problem. I can go to the PBW forums with the text GUI. The text side also lets me look at game informaton but I can not download or send my turns. I tried with the PBW Real Time Client and it works just fine. I was able to play my KOTH turn with it. There must be something wrong with PBW servers Java stuff.

March 8th, 2003, 12:59 PM
Something is also wrong with emails. I didn't get the usual email that comes when turn is prosessed. Well, I guess e-mails aren't such a big problem when you can use RTC.

Progress.
The text UI is semi working now. You should be able to get and upload turns. You wont have a link to your game forum though.
Still working on the graphic side...

Thanks for getting PBW up and running. I was able to upload my turns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
Now the bad news... The 'Forum' button for individual games seems to have disappeared http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif
EDIT: This is for the text-based Version by the way.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">We are aware. We had to remove that to get the rest of it working. I will be making a more detailed announcment about that tonight. I will also post it on the front page for PBW.

As you probably noticed PBW is experiencing some technical difficulties at the moment. While not totally resolved, we have gotten around the worst of the issues and have things working for the most part.
Without getting too technical the root of the problem is in the way the server interfaces with the software that runs our forums. Normally anytime you create a game on PBW it creates a game forum specifically for that game. Anytime a player joins that game they are given permission to view and post in that forum. Currently PBW is unable to create forums and edit permissions for these forums.
The first symptom you are going to notice about this is that you currently do not have a link to your game forum from your games as you did before. We had to remove that so that you could access your games and download and upload turn files. You can still get to your game forum by going to the main forums and scrolling to the bottom and clicking the “Show all game forums” button. Once in the forum you can still view and make Posts as normal. The public forums also appear to be working correctly.
Another symptom of the problem is that any game created from this point on until we get things totally fixed will not have a game forum. And any players that join any games from this point on until we get it fixed will not have access to the game forum. This is true even for games created before the problems arose.
A few more problems exist that will mainly affect game owners. If you create a new game you will get a 500 error. The game will be created, but you will get the error and you will have to navigate back to PBW from the error screen. Once you do you will see it in your game list.
Also any time a player joins or leaves a game you are going to get a 500 error. This will show up when you approve a player to join, kick them from a game, or mark them finished. As with the game create error, the action you are doing will still get done. You are just going to have an error and need to navigate back to PBW. Also you may notice that the action will not show up in the game log. This is ok.
Currently and for the next couple days the automatic processing is off on the server. What this means is games will not run due to reaching their time limit. They will run when all turns are in, and the game owner can force the turn to run anytime, but they will not run due to timeout even if the game is set to Fully Automatic turns.
We are working hard to get the problem with the forums corrected, but we have no idea at this time how long it will take. We will turn automatic turn processing back on in a couple days though. The other problems may be with us for a bit. Please bear with us.

I take it from this that I should still be able download turns somehow? When I click on one of my games then entire left side is blank, no forum (as you of course mention here) but also no download or send buttons.

No auto turns will run as long as I have that function turned off on the server. You need to notify your game owner you are having a problem so he doesn't manually run the turn.
Can you email me the .plr file you are trying to upload? I will see if I can get it to go for you.

It also seems that with a brand new game, players will not be notified by email that they have been accepted, though it shows on the game screen. (At least this happened to me; don't know about anyone else.) Possibly a side-effect associated with the "host/error 500" problem.

I've got a problem with Sweet victory by summertime game :
I tried to send two times my .plr turn file to the server, but it doesn't work : I've got no acknoledgment message, and the turn isn't processed. What else can I do ?

GEO GAME approvals are not working now.
The email package with password is not being sent out.
Nor is the player being approved to join the game.
I am getting the 500 error. But the server is not updating...

March 13th, 2003, 09:01 PM
Until we get the problems resolved the new players will have to contact the PBW admins to get the new passwords. Make sure they know not to hit the update password button cause that will change the password that PBW thinks it is and it doesn't store old passwords.

Uploading plr files seems very hit and miss tonight. Half the time, the site just sits there after I hit "send turn", and I have to close the browser and try again. My connection is just fine, so that can not be the source of the problem.

And now it's back to "Internal Server Error" in both graphics and text mode. I can access the main page where it asks for either graphics or text, but chose either one and KO.
EDIT - Ten minutes later and it is back again.

Still a problem with the game forum links. Got to talk to Lazarus about that, but it's got to be something simple. Shuld be fine to use in the mean time though.
