Greetings all from another MOO3 refugee!

Can anyone help me understand why I am unable to colonize Ice planets? I must be missing something. I have the Colonize Ice Planet tech I got from a surrendered foe, but I am unable to actually colonize them. They even appear with a green star, but it just says "cannot colonize ice planets"

Any ideas? Thanks!!

i can think of two possibilities.
1. do you have can only colonize home world type activated in settings. (when you started game)
2. do you have an ice planet colonization component on the ship or one of the other types.

I think you have built a colonny ship with a rock planet colony component instead of a ice planet colony component. Have a look at the design screen...

Two others to watch out for:
Sending Colony Ships with no population on board
Building ships with no engines.

Hehe. Now that you mentioned the 2nd thing. I'll ditto the been there and done that. It especially gets me when I set up auto-waypoints for ship manufacture, on a planet. (At the time, it was intended for putting exploration or attack vessels) But I forget about that idea when I produce a colony ship from that same planet. So, anyway, it gets produced, since it's waiting at the waypoint I simply click over to colonize it. Doh! Forgot to put PEOPLE in it. So I arrive to build a colony with no population. Anyway, I find out I need to send another ship over before I can start producing anything from that colony.

After a delay of turns like that, you know I am real careful about that ever since then. That's my fault. The mental problem with setting production waypoints is that they do exact what you ask. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif They can't read your mind if you had a special condition you needed before it left the space yard. Especially since you specify exactly and how much is put into a cargo bay. I guess the one consolation for less chance of procedural mistakes, on my part, is that cargo holds can carry both people and objects. No screw ups involving the need to manage personell carriers from material ones.

DOH!

Yup, I was falling asleep in bed like an hour after I asked the question and I realized what I had done (wrong colony module). Thanks for the help though! I also found out the hard way about empty colonizers. That's really fun especially when the colonizer has come from the other side of the universe.

Yes, I wish I were a cartoonist. I envision a chinchilla with a large "I'm gonna get you sucka-style pimp hat and aquarium platform shoes. I've tried to do it myself, but do you know how hard it is to draw a chinchilla that doesn't look like any other small fuzzy rodent? "Dude, is that a guinea pig in a sombrero?"

Again, thanks for the help!

If you want it, it can be Gervaisized (frame + light in corner).
