See topic. Whatever happened to this game it looked great.

For at least 2-3 years I watched and waited for this game to come out. I still think it would be great one.

As I understand it the guy developing never got it quite finished and has been waiting for at least a year to find a publisher to pay him to finish it. I could be wrong about that, just my impression.

maybe we should suggest they contact MM and ask for help.

It looks like it would be a great game.
As someone mentioned already they are in search of a publisher as they haven't got the money to finish the game. It's really sad though, this game looked like it will one of the best; even now, and it was supposed to come out 2 years ago.

i presume that Stars! producers want it in a box on a shelf. SG dont do that much.

i would hope the people who are creating it would learn that a little of something is better than nothing. space empires hasnt done bad and if supernova is as good as it looks it could do well also (i have enjoyed stars for the past several years). at least this would let them get it in the market to start out with then see about expanding into the mainstream. also seeing as to what kind of reception SEIV has gotten from the gaming community as a result of MOO3, i am sure stars have its share of people willing to buy it.

Edit: ok i just did something quite possibly stupid. i just emailed the guys at Stars:SG and asked them if they have thought about contacting Shrapnel Games to see about get game released thru them. lets see what kind of response, if any, i get.

You'll get no response. I have emailed them multiple times over the past year or two. They seem determined to get a major commercial developer to commit to the game before they finish it.

I think they would be happy with anyone as publishers. Eventually, they'll self publish, if necessary. The game still had a lot of work to be done on it a year or so ago, but the main framework appeared to be in place. They ran into a complications when Microsoft changed Versions of the software, which added to their work load, I'm sure. I would guess that with only one or two or three people working on it part-time the project is daunting, especially given the graphics and sound they were determined to include. As a Stars! fan, those are irrelevant to me, but I do understand the need and I appreciate the goodies when they are presented. If the game ever shows up in the form the beta testers saw and which Jeff McBride envisions it will be a great leap in what 4x gamers have been offered, even after 1+ years in limbo.

You can get the original game STARS from someone via P2P. I bought my copy. I don't know where you can buy one now.

As for SSNG, what can any one say; It is highly doubtful that it will ever be published. I have posted about this before, and have even posted that they should contact shrapnel on their forums. The answer has always been that Shrapnel is a small company and can not aford to support the developers or development of SSNG.

Head to the link in my sig to go to my Stars! topic, there's a link in that thread that will go to the demo.

stars! website still sells copies. you can either by a copy of the cd adn have it shipped (which includes manual) or download the game and buy a license # (less expensive, but all documentation is digital)

Jeff swore he'd finish it some form and self-publish if he had to, as he did Stars! You guys have to see the 3-D battles to believe them. Awesome just begins to describe the action. Screen snapshots do not begin to do justice to them.

3-D is irrelevant to being a good game or not.

Well... actually, a 3d star map would help SE5 tremendously. It doesn't have to be some convolutedly beautifully rendered piece of artwork or anything, but I just can't stand the 2d starmap in SE4. A 3d map would allow for much more diverse games, and would help to lower the chance of being boxed into a small area early on. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Yes to all of that, IF. And SSN's star map is just 2 dimensional. Only the tactical battles occur in 3 dimensions.

Always wanted to try Asimov's strategic englobement strategy in 3 dimensions on the strategic map...
