He's my two cents. I'd like to request an update to the way planetary battles are fought. How about dividing the planet into four parts. Then ground units battle it out. Kind of like MOO3.

It is a bit too late to code this into SE4. Some sort of ground combat system should be in SE5 though. I know I for one won't give up in trying to get MM to add one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

So, first of all you are requesting that planets have 'regions' like MOO 3 'DEA' regions. Then, on top of that you want a tactical mode for ground combat. Have you ever played Emperor of the Fading Suns? This has the kind of features you are thinking of. I find it too confusing to try to play both space and ground in such detail. I'd prefer that ground combat have a few extra options (settable strategy for your troops) but definitely NOT a tactical mode. As for 'regions'... why not just have sliders to set production over-all and save worrying about the details? Even having to build individual facilities for resources and research/intel production is a bit much in the scale we are wanting for this game. Sliders for each planet allowing a percentage allocation of the populations' time/labor in each type of production would be better.

I never play the tactical ship combats. I did it in my first games, but today no, because I like to play simultaneous (even against the AI).

Yeah, simul games are much more fun (and realistic) than sequential games. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

If you figure that planets in SE:V will be rendered real-time with bitmap textures, those same bitmap textures could be used to represent the surface of the planet for ground combat.
