In traditional newbie fashion I have qustion. I have sattelites that I have built but have no idea what they are far or how to use/deploy them. When I build them I thought they were for planetary defense?

Thanks

Thanks<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, you can do a few things with them:

(1) If they are built and sitting in your cargo on your planet, you can launch them for protection...assuming they have weapons on board.

(2) If you have a ship with sat launchers, you can load them up and carry them somewhere and launch them into space. In my opinion, since they shoot so poorly, the best place to put them is defending a wormhole so any intruder gets fired upon as they enter. Usually at close range.

(3) If you just want to haul them somewhere else, put them on a ship with cargo hold and take them to another planet and then unload them.

For any better expert advice, someone else will come along.

Also, do a search and see details about bulding multiple sats. You see, they are kind of like one big ship even though you see there are many of them.

Cheers!

Another use for them is to put scanners on them. (If available) and deploy them a few systems from your borders. This will give you "listening Posts" so to speak and you can see if any threats are about to enter your space. Giving you time to get defenses t othe warp point they will be coming through.

If I deploy mines directly over a planet (same sector), will any intruder hit the mines before attacking my planet?

I just was wondering if there was any use for mines other than Warp Point defense.
I already tried deploying mines during combat and it doesn't work.

Mines detonate before combat, so you'll probably end up fighting a bunch of ships that are already full of holes, or if you have enough mines in place, you can just sit back to watch the fireworks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

you can put sats anywhere you like as long as you have the tech to transport and launch them. You can even cloak them and use as spy sats in other systems http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Good for wormhole defense and planet defense, it just depends on what weapons, shields, etc you put on them. a lot of players use them for PD's , everyone has their own uses for them. enjoy the game and welcome to the best forum around

just some ideas mac

And, as you discovered, laying mines during combat isn't terribly useful. Launching satellites, drones or fighters works quite well in combat, though... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
