There is a web wide DNS issue at the moment. It started about 3am here. PBW is known to my DNS servers, and I can get in from systems on my domain, but my free standing system can't resolve it.

I didn't do it already because usually these problems resolve themselves before I even notice them. Someone is going to have to let me know when the DNS problem is gone though cause from my end I don't see an issue anyway.

I can trace it from a node site, just not from the subs. It's a DNS issue. When I mainlined it I got a route that went from DC/NV to the midwest by way of Dallas.

After my ISP was down for a day, I couldn't access PBW - It wasn't looking like a good weekend. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
The Web address is not working in Australia but the IP Address is working fine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Certainly seems like a DNS issue.

I can only access pbw via the alterante address. I still haven't received any turns via email since the problem with the main addy, but I downloaded the next turn and uploaded directly with no problems. So I think it is affecting email.

I am getting intermittent ability to use RTClient. Earlier, I got on with RTClient and was disconnected before I had finished reading my turn log. Later I got on and was able to finished another turn. Interestingly, my wife tried to get on from her computer about 5 minutes after I tried and the RTClient would not connect at all.

Using the IP address and the web interface to download and then upload, I'm in business. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Gotta love the flexibility of PBW! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif
As others have said, the DNS wasn't working for my browser to connect via seiv.pbw.cc, and I'm not getting the e-mails from PBW ... possibly due to DNS issues coming from PBW?

Another anomaly:
Just received a turn from my Adversary game. The game file was the same name as the Last game file I received. However, though all the file sizes were the exact same as before, the turn was a different turn since I received a message I had not received the turn before. So, THAT's weird!
While playing with you tonight, geo, every other turn had the wrong file name (on the zip) though each actual turn was different.
And, as you stated earlier, some people are receiving emailed turns while others have to download from the site (like I did with you).
Go figure!

Thermodyne
April 13th, 2003, 09:02 AM
PBW's DNS servers are all on the same subnet, and hold a single MX record. If the subnet could not be reached, then the name resolution would fail and the mail would stop. When the MX records came back on line, some Cached mail would be delivered.

Hi Geoschmo
Well, I think I may have solved it for MOO3.
In Master or Orion 3, our host ,Unknown Enemy, asked me for my password.
Seems he wants to hassel us players on our gameplay. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Had no problem with it as he is not a player.
So, I changed my password and game him the new one.
Only when I changed my password back to the original, will RTC run with modpicker.
Is there any way to run RTC with modpicker under a new password for MOO3?

I have a recurrent (it hapenned three times during the two Last months) problem, maybe someone else got it too : I send my file to the server by email, and nothing happens (no acknoledgment, and the status remains "awaiting turn" on the PBW site). sometimes, the turn is processed with a day delay, sometimes not.
After a day, I generally send the turn with the web interface, but the Last time I try this, the AI played the turn instead of me, even if the status was "ready for turn" on PBW site.
I currently have the problem with both homecoming 2 and sweet victory game. Hope I won't miss a turn again, the situation is critical...

Email is unreliable. More so for some people then for others. Some people use the email and never have troubles. Some consistantly have troubles. My suggestion is if you are one that has problems with email don't use it. Use the web interface only to upload your turns.
