Um, no. I never modded the AI to make minesweepers. Send me your current save game file.

atrocities@astmod.com

This I have to see for in all the games I have played the AI never over produced ships of any class except Dreadnought.

I will look it over and send CNC some ideas if this is a bug. Thanks.

I run into the same thing...lots of big-hull AI minesweepers.

Pocus
April 29th, 2003, 07:21 PM
I have not seen that too.

My problem is different : I have access for my fighters to the small mount, which has only advantages : same damage, but half the weight, and +2 range. Is this not a bit too much?

As of now, no big inbalances seen otherwise.

Thanks I got it. My first impression is that the AI has generated a significant amount of MS is because many AI's have laid significant amount of mines. I have asked CNC to look into this and he has replied by saying that he is working on it. So perhpas by the next patch, whenever that is, the problem my be addressed. Like I said, most of the AI's for the mod are slightly modified stock Malfador or TDM AI's.

Ok so far my problems are:

1. &small ship mount has only advantages.
2. Borgs colony ships or AI in general dont put enough emphasize on supply or supply depot
3. some AI dont research DUC (stay at DUC I) but still use them commonly even on battleships.

Please Atrocities or the person handling the AI of the mod, confirm you read my points, lest I will repost them within some days http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Atrocities

I have read them. The problem with the DUC's is that a minor race issue or is it occuring with any of the following:

8472, Borg, Breen, Cardassian, Ferengi, Federation, Dominion, Klingon, Romulan, Son'a?

Remember that cncraymond@astmod.com is working on the mod. I no longer work on it. I like to keep informed and if need be help out, but otherwise I am not concerned with it. Please email him, and keep posting your idea, suggestions, bugs, other. THEY ARE ALWAYS helpful and appreciated.

Thanks Pocus, he does read the forums, but does not often post.

Thanks for the info though. I can look at the neutral AI and stuff for CNC later today if I have time, and redo the research.txt to force them to do better research.

Ok Atrocities, I will mail cncRaymond, do you think he reads this thread?

The problem with DUC is with the Gorn, UCP and Andorian. The others (the ones you made I think), like the 8472 are ok.

Pocus
May 3rd, 2003, 08:45 AM
Same thing here, I'm slowly pushing back the Gorns after their initial agression, and now I'm ganging with UCP against the 8472, mainly in the hope that mighty UCP move from murderous toward a better relationship (even if we have a MA, how strange).

Do you think that being at war with a common enemy can bolster relationships with another empire? That's would be a cool and intelligent feature.

Is it in the unmodded SE IV that the sensor I only give +15% and the mark II 45% ? I feel the difference is too high, thats a +200% added value, whereas in some (well in many) a better technology will give you a mere +10% incremental bonus.

Another good point. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Did you know that if you make changes to the mod to improve the game play, CNC would more than likely include them in the next patch.

I often did that, and I know that he has in the past. So keep the suggestions coming.

And not to down play the AST mod, have you been over to the Star Trek Mod Forum yet? Kwok is nearing the Beta phase for the mod, and people like you who seem to have a good eye for things would be a great help. Just a thought.

I would like to help, but I'm a bit lost in all these mods. Where is the other star trek mod located?

I got an initial reply from cncRaymond for my first mail some days ago, but nothing afterward. Perhaps he is in vacation. I will continue to post things which bug me in this thread, I hope he will read it even if I have no clue he is doing that.

Atrocities

Sounds like CNC. Rest assured he is reading the thread.

The Star Trek Mod is located here, and there is a link to the forum on this page as well. The forum is at Fyrons Site. Tis a great forum, but for me on dial up it takes forever to load so I do not often visit it. I wish I could though, as I really like it.

Ok got it. I went on it once and was impressed by the graphical quality. Alas it seems that the mod is far from being playable. I will read the forum to get a more accurate view of the status.

cya.

The site is up but the forum is unreachable (and I have a fast line).

Atrocities, does a way exists to bribe you in doing a shipset (Protoss)? I guess it asks for dozens of hours? Perhaps I can do some coding for you or others, some examples:

a xeno lab : an utility which let you rename a race into another (including all gx&ai files at once), associate a new shipset to an existing race, declaring a race deprecated (the files are kept in a zipped format), a generic race viewer with one tab for each race of a directory, etc.

Just an idea amongst others for some SE IV utilities.

Or I can make the entire Star wars map for SE IV, I have a giant poster with tons of planets identified.

etc.

Pocus-
If you are referring to a Protoss shipset from the starcraft(?) universe...I believe a Protoss shipset was already created. I remember seeing one a long time ago. If you can't find it on one of the race-download sites, let me know and I will try to dig through some old CD backups to see if I can find it somewhere. If you do find it, it probably will need a major update to the AI though!

Pocus
May 4th, 2003, 08:27 PM
Yes thats the Protoss from SC. I'm unable to find the site where is the whole listing of shipset made (even if I reached it once I remember).
Do you have an URL?

ts22

I don't know where it would be posted. I did look and do still have the Protoss file on a CD. The file is 2MB or so and I can send it to you if you want. I checked the readme and the file is pretty old- Sept 2001. Hence, you will need to update the AI. But at least the picture files are there. I don't know how to upload to this forum but I could send you the file via email.

I have an ADSL so no problems for me, please do send the stuff at phmalacher at free.fr

I thank you a lot. Perhaps I will start to look at the AI files after I have practiced a bit more the game. I used to tweak many games, and even made a total conVersion of Stars! in the Fading Sun universe, so why not SE IV. This game is vast and rich of many things.

There is a proton file at PBW, but nothing about Protoss by the way.

Thanks again!

Atrocities, does a way exists to bribe you in doing a shipset (Protoss)? <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have to agree, there is already a Protoss ship set out along with the other two races from StarCraft.

I think I too have it on my old P2 400, but that PC died over a year ago. I would have to pull the HD's and put them in another machine to access them.

Any one here know if I can put a Windows 98 HD into a Windows XP machine and acess it without killing it?

Atrocities:

I got the Protoss shipset from ts22. I'm not sure I like that much all the graphics in it though...

About your HD, there is no problems in adding a HD with w98 system as a slave to your main (xp) HD. The reverse would not be true (fat16 versus fat32/ntfs access), but in your case you just have to find the jumper on your HD to declare it as a slave. After booting it will be recognized as a data disk, and voila.

You can unplug your cd drive and replace it with your HD too, if you just want to pick some datas then disconnect the HD.

Forgot to says that even if I - personally - dont like frantically the graphical work of the author, it deserves praise for the time spent on it. It is not my intention to diminish the valor of his work.

Atrocities/CNC Raymond: Is the AI included with the shipsets (such as Hirogen) for the AST MOD or "regular" SEIV?

:::Never mind; found my answer in the shipset forum...

Individual ship sets AI is for REGULAR game play.

The AST MOD uses custom AI and therefore regular AI will not work.

HOWEVER, you can change the BMP images of a race without causing any problems. IE going from the old Hirogen images to the new ones. Just copy them over and voilia your done.

OK, so if I have this right:
Shipsets included in the AST mod have mod-specific AIs.

Shipsets downloaded separately from Atrocities' (or others?) websites have "general" AIs compatible with TDM or unmodded SEIV gold.

Right?....maybe???

Am I right in assuming that TDM AI are compatible with standard ones?
