View Full Version : Crawling ships?

I recently started up SEIV (non-Gold), and the ships in my game started moving pretty slow - I could follow a ship's every square of movement; before the problem started, I'd see a ship moving from one place to another, not in much detail, but faster.
I tested this in combat, and it turns out everything that moves - fighters, missiles, enemy ships - were all moving slowly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif .
My question is, is there a way to speed up how fast ships/missiles/fighters move? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif I don't want to turn off all movement animation and just see a ship teleport from here to there - I would like to see some movement, but faster.
This may be a problem with my system settings (running Windows ME, 700 Mhz Celeron, 128 MB Memory)...or, it could be a setting in SE IV I need to change. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

From what I remember it was a bunch of High tech voodoo involving winmodems and such.

I have a P3 600Mhtz / 128MB RAM and Windows ME. They work fine. I'm guessing it is the video card. Might look for newer drivers.

There is a setting under options in tactical combat that speeds up movement. click on options when in tactical combat and then check fast tactical.

Besides the fast combat obtion, turn off the cd music, and turn off the hexs, these are also listed under options. all of these will speed the game up for ya
just some ideas mac

hexes are quite useful
as for fast game, i believe thats actually the reason why my game's aint too slow anymore (cant say, been only playing PBW simul lately)
fast combat is boring, i watch (not play, watch) the combats for a reason you know

I have the same problem when playing with sound. Simply turn off all music and sound and ships will move fast again. If you like the sound of weapons during tactical battle - turn it on for awhile then turn it off again.

If you are running under XP, try running SE4 in 2000 compatibility mode.

Then, for no apparent reason, it started going fast again! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I'm pretty sure it'll be back, though...there really ought to be a tried-and-true way to keep the game going fast http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

in tac combat, the intermediate solution between teleporting ships and crawling ships is to uncheck ship animation AND fast tac move. The ship will make micro teleports for a square to another, but not too fast that you cant see what they really do, or the detail of torpedoes&direct fire.
