View Full Version : Need Help - Components.bmp & Facility.bmp file

Can anyone help me by letting me know if that I add some component images to my mod, but don't revise the general components.bmp file, will that new image still work even though it is not included in the components.bmp file.

If I read your question correctly, you want to know if you must put the .bmp in the default (non-mod) directory?
The answer is no. AFAIK as long as a modded components.bmp is in the Mod directory the program doesn't use the one in the original directory.
Of course if you give someone a copy of your mod you MUST include the new .bmp files or they will get blanks where the graphics are supposed to be.

Let me be more clear. Here is an example.
comp_410.bmp
comp_411.bmp
comp_412.bmp
Do I need to include these three new images in any components.bmp file?
Could I just leave them out of the components.bmp all togeter but call comp_410.bmp in the components.txt file and the image would show up in the game? Thanks for any help.

AFAIK the game is hardcoded to use a picture number of a graphic in the components.bmp file.
I have not verified what would happen, but I suspect that if you put a filename instead of a number you will get either No graphic (Blank) or an error message in the game.
I'm not a modder myself, but when I combined a few mods together I got some very interesting displays (astroid fields displayed instead of warp points,etc.) and sometimes NO graphics shown.
I'm sure some on this forum CAN tell you how to add your graphics to the end of the files used.
Sorry, I've never done that myself.

Not having a mini pic is a bad idea. The game will complain whenever it tries to load that image number in any screen ingame, and complain loudly to boot! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I have looked at both facility.bmp files and the spots that are taken by one mod's facilty.bmp are open spots on the other mod's facility.bmp. Can anyone tell me how I combine the two facility.bmp files to make one ultimate facility.bmp?

Another question.
Could I just copy and paste each image from one facility.bmp file to the other? I am placing the image in the exact same spot from one file to another. Thanks for any response.

Yes, you can do that. Check out the Image Mod, linked in my sig. It has tons of images from different mods and such in it already. Sort of a standard image collection.
