Do it as suggested many time before - make a new component, "experienced ship captain" with att. and def. bonuses. It should cost a furtune in organics - champain and caviar, because he is worth it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Don't forget that if you discover that Neural Combat Net and add it to a ship, then the ship will get an experience level equal to the highest experience level of any ship in your fleet.

I think there is also a random event which affects experience. It being random it is rather hard for you to control, but in theory you should be able to mod it into an intel project. You could then get an ally to run that project on you...

"Ship Ambrosia 0009 in the Gamma sector has recieved training. Its experience level has increased"...
followed by a +20% increase in experience. It happened to one of my bases...which means that it can happen to a ship or a base.

ALthough on the Eyecandy mod, there are several events that cause a ship's experience to go up.
