Hey all, I am going to start another Strange Races game. The first game is still going, but not to the expectations I had for it. I request that only serious players sign up for this game as that is the problem with the first game. Someone dropped when the RPG aspect was in full swing and it severely changed the game. Anyway, here are the settings, if you are interested, please sign up (note that I have made a few changes from the first game);

For many generations, your scientists have been studying the stars. It was only 100 years ago that they discovered there were other planetary systems within your galaxy. They have yet to be able to explain the limits of your galaxy, much is still unknown. Talk and rumors of alien life out there has been running rampant within your populace. Most of your population is anxious, although some are wary, as the day of your first intergalactic colony ship deployment draws near and your scientists promise even more advances as the years go by. Will you find extraterrestrial existence? If you do, will they be friendly? Will you be able to establish a mutually beneficial alliance or bring war upon your people? The answers can only be found in the stars so lead your race into the future!

Why only 1 racial tech this time?

First and foremost is that I want to see a Temporal race played as a Temporal race etc. Second is that I want to get away from mixed tech ship design. I don't want someone using Organic armor and Temporal weapons or shields/Crystalline armor with Psychic weapons. You chose 1 trait and play your race with it using that trait's advantages/disadvantages.

Hey Gand. How about trades and gifts all together. And make it a rule NO TRADES NO GIFTS.

That way if you want something you will have to go to war for it....

The reason I say this that in Strange Race 1 everyone has a military alliance...

p.s. perhaps we could use rex's colony mod....

It does seem, in some of the games that I have played, that Tech Trading gets out of hand. It may be better in this type of game to only get what you research or take by force.

Bumping this back to page 1 in the hopes of generating more interest.

High Tech Cost and Tech Trading allowed - makes the actual gaming irrelevant, only problem is to form a good and effective tech trading alliance. Though tempted, I'll not join a PBW game with tech trading allowed (ship trading and analysing is bad enough) - unless its a 1-on-1 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I know that from similar games, it is too much emphasis on diplomacy and/or prearranged alliances due to personal knowledge (happens), and the actual strategy game aspect has little effect. I prefer planing, managing and solving problems like too many borders for too few fleets http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I would be interested, but I am in the top 3 for the three games that I am in already. I frequently put restrictions like yours on race and tech to create more interesting games when I host.

There will be NO tech trades and ship trades are allowed with Military Alliance or higher. We are also considering disallowing gifts of any kind.

gand. everyone will have military alliances...

You should ban all tech trading and gifts.

We are strange races after all...

So our tech should be incompatable...

What's the point of purposly putting yourself at a disadvantage? But that doesn't mean he particularly enjoys doing it. That would be why he would like to see it disallowed in SR2.

Kwok... about a quater of the way into the game... I looked at the treaty grid.... Almost everyone had a MA...

Gandalph
May 17th, 2003, 07:21 PM
I had stated below that we may take the No Trade to a vote, but the point seen in SR1 with everyone at MA, seems convincing. We will make this game a No Trade, No Gift, game. As far as technology goes, you either research yourself, or steal it from thine enemy.

I do not have military alliance with anyone. I was under the assumption that the game was a roleplay in most regards, but it seems it's turned into the same let's trade colony techs and populations as most pbw games do. Oh well, it's till a decent game though and I'm happy with my races development.

I would join strange races II but I'm already in six games and that is enough for me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

So, no tech trade, no pop trade and no ship trade.

Fair enough as long it is stated clearly from the beginning.

Although a fairly new player, I would love to join this game. I have been working on a "Strange Race" of my own. I am currently waiting for permission to Ship set bash a little to get the desired mix of race and ship set that I want. But I went ahead and applied for the game anyway. And for my two cents, I agree with the no tech, no ship trading idea. You want it, you take it.

That way they know when times up..

Your a good host... So players need not worry about that...

Now only 4 spots left. Come you RPGer's, this is the game you have been waiting for!!

I'm about ready to upload my race file. I'm going to use the Hedres shipset, but would like to use a different race pic and flag, one more suited to my race's description(I have the ok of the ship set's author.) I have a couple of pics I have been trying to Gimp together for this but my graphic arts skills are somewhere between pathetic and nonexistant. If someone with a higher level skill would be willing to put me together a decent race pic and flag (and maybe make those files I need that those two things go into) I could do my part to get this show on the road.

Thanks.
