View Full Version : PBW Password Perplexity

I recently started two new PBW games. The only problem is that the passwords I know I input when I signed up (I'm old, but not that old http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif ) for both these games won't work. I've tried everything - alternate spelling, reloading the turn, I even loaded SEIV into a fresh directory and tried running it with just the one game turn. Nothing works. Anybody have any hints or suggestions?

get the mod to reset your password for ya.
Changing the password on PBW seems usually not to work, unfortunately.

Are you the admin for the game? Is it your host password that doesn't let you alter options for the game at the PBW or is it that you can't run the turns at home in the game?
Or is it that you can't open a game you have joined?
Where you in on the start or are you a replacement.
The password entered at the PBW site doesn't have to be the same that the game recognizes, the PBW entered password is just there to let replacements know the password when they join.
Usually people haven't added any password when creating their emp file before uploading and tries franticly to use the password they entered at the pbw site when they shouldn't use any password at all.
The admin for the game can run the game at home and choose to reset the password and then upload the replacement turn, after the admin has let you know the new password (Usually some numbers i e 1743526) you change the password in your game at home when you are playing your turn.
After that update the password at the PBW site in case you must leave the game sometime so that the next replacement will know what password you have set.
If you are admin for the game it becomes more tricky...
If it is the admin password for the game at the PBW site you can ask the PBW administrators to change it for you, go to the PBW forums and ask them there to send it to you.
Have you tried loading the turns without using any password at all?
If you've missed entering any password when creating your emp file load the turn without password and set a new password in the game as soon as possible!!

This is getting annoying. I hate starting out on the wrong foot.

Ruatha - No, I have not tried logging on w/o a password. If that works, I will be most embarrased and confused. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif
Geo - check your private Messages.
Both - thanks.

I get an email when I receive a PM, you don't have to post something here to get me to read it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Don't feel too badly. It's a common mistake to make.

GW: Don't feel bad. I think most new players have made this mistake (no password) at least once. I have several times...Greybeard http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

GW - a very common and minor mistake. At least you didn't send colony ships without colonists - thats more embarrassing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Or design a colony ship without engines, and then try to send it off without any colonists. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
