... although it may have been mentioned already - and if so - I apologize.

I'd like to be able to design all my ships through advanced tech and save them in a readable text file. I mean all the way up to the maximum even if I don't have the tech yet.

It would only make the displayed list huge if the game didn't filter out ships with unresearched/discovered tech.

I'd also like to be able to edit that list outside the game (or within it).

Is this too much of a programming nightmare?

You can start an advanced tech game and set "save designs with empire", but that wouldn't generate a readable text file...

A replay button, like in Civ1.
Showing the growth of the various empires and the major events.

Still powers up CivNet and Civ2 from time to time though.
CivNet is still the best single player Civ game for me.
