OK, now that I've got your attention with that sufficiently inane title, don't you think it says something that the SE4 forum has more THREADS than any of Shrapnel's other forums has POSTS??? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Makes you wonder what the folks at Shrapnel did before SE4 came along http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Oh there are other games getting plenty of activity that are worth playing; message Boards on here rarely indicate what a game is doing interest wise... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
It is great to see the community that has sprung up on this board, though. Reading this forum is always entertaining. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Pherhaps the other forums don't have Posts as much as we do because they (people who would post on those forums) spend their time playing games rather than to post on the forums.

If I'm right, then SE4 is in a heap of trouble http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Hehe, Last friday, a coworker asked about SEIV and what that forum was that i checked every day at work. You should have seen the look on his face when he saw the number of Posts in this forum ...

Star Wars fan joke. George Lucas' first film was called THX-1138 and he inserts that number here and there in all the SW movies.

oh i c, now im getting the joke http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif , im not that an avid fan of SW then http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

one of the reasons is also that SE is very friendly with the fact that you can easily switch windows, as well as there is no time pressure in the game... and there is the time inbetween PBW turns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Uh, don't look at me. If you divide my time as a member of Intel by my number of current Posts, carry the seven, add the number of years I've been playing SE and subtract the square root of the sum total of every Shrapnel game I own... then... well, then... something strange will probably happen to you.

You know, if you add in the Posts in the forum pre-2000, the number would be even larger... not too much larger compared to all the other game forums, but still pretty big. I guess the folks at Shrapnel decided that cleaning up all the topics in this forum isn't worth it, since it only happened the one time...

Why? leet speak is designed to be comprehensible by anyone. It is not tricky at all.

i managed not to understand the more complicated words for about i don't know 2 years? but, there's only so long you can delay comprehension. unless you mess up your mind, and i don't want to do that.

Perhaps this forum is so much more popular than the other games' is due to the close-knit threads (no pun intended) that bind SE players together. In most games, the majority of the excitement and plot are derived from the game itself. In SE, however, much of the excitement, and almost all of the plot, are derived from the players themselves. So we are so bonded to each other in-game, that this forum is just an out-of-character extension of the game.
BTW, I can't say for certain if this is true, as I myself haven't played MP yet (though I've followed the forum for a long time). Waiting for my SEIV Gold to arrive. It should be here shortly after the weekend, and that does indeed r0xx0r!

I'm pretty sure that "w00t!" initially developed in one of the early FPS communities, as a very brief way to express jubilation over a kill/frag. It was then adopted as a de facto standard in just about every other game where a shorthand was in any sort of demand.

I always just mentally translated it as a very energetic "YAY!". Close enough.

whatever it means its pretty powerful-sounding dont you think?

Fyron

Doesn't sound powerful to me, just lame and cliche. Little kids trying to look cool and such is all it is, really.

Sure, it's all fun and games now, but just wait until the next President of the United States updates the Constition and uses "w00t" in every paragraph!

You know it's comming sooner or later...

It would have to be the Supreme Court - they are the ones that interpert the United States Constitution (officially) rather than the President.

Phoenix-D
June 1st, 2003, 09:33 AM
They interpret it though, not re-write it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Actually, I'm not aware of an official way the main text can be re-written (amendments don't count, the original text stays as-is..which is why Prohibition is still on the Constitusion)
