View Full Version : Hey, another question

I don't know how to test this, so I will ask. When I remote mine in my solo games, I get the second starbase and load it up, something like 8 mineral and 2 each of Org and Rad. I can upgrade this, which is nice. But I wonder, it says you can only have 1 object mining per sector, but Sats group, so does that mean I can have 100 sats all mining?

Which is used the most? Starbase or sats?

Personally I would go for the Sats, because they don't use maintenance, and you could pick them up at a later stage and move them.

You can only have one Ship or Base mining in a sector, period. Or, you can have sats. With satellites, you can only have 3 operate, one mining each type of resource. Extra satellites will not produce any more resources. Having a base and satellites will result in either the base or the satellites mining, depending on which was built first and some random absurdity. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Ie: it sometimes has the first built object mine, other times has the Last built one mine. I noticed this when replacing Space Stations with Battlestations in Proportions games.

so you can't have 100 sats all mining? just want to clarify is all.

only one spatial vessel can mine one particular square on the map, yes.

well, then I will stick with my Battle stations then. 100 sats all working together would be a bit excessive, but oh well.

Your miners will not offset the maint of a Starbase (or Battle Station)...best to go with sats and one of each in a sector..no maint and as said can be moved when the resorces dry up

I am playing a solo game with the TDM + FQM mod. As an example of an asteroid is 250%, 230%, 225%. I have a Base station above it with 10 mineral, and 2 each org and rad (lvl 3 extractors). I mine 20kt, 3792, 3568, maint is 3125, 75, 337. So I am getting a large surplus of minerals.

I do remember reading that some mods have been fixed (the mining rate), just don't know if what I see is the norm or not.

Just imagine the kind of resources you could be pulling in if you formed that into a planet and filled it with monoliths!

No maintenance, and you don't deplete the value each turn.

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Me watches sadly as the poor, defenseless asteroids are strip mined by the heartless machinery of the starbase http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

If that is the case, then making planets out of them would be an option, if I can wait that long.

Asteroids do deplete in value when you mine them, even in Infinite games. I always thought that was kind of silly. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Narrew, it seems to me you succeeded in being a "true capitalist" (exploitationist), wanting to loot no matter what the consequences.

PvK<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">HAHA, I don't know if that is a compliment or not. If not, I bet you would consider it explotion when I change all my planet atmospheres to Methane since that is what I breath http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif muhahaha, if I could get a remote atsmophere converter, I would make a fleet of them and change the universe to my needs. Better buy stocks in Dome manufacturing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif here I come....

You should be able to see the effects of changing that setting mid-game as it has nothing to do with the map itself.

Actually I wont change the settings, so I don't get used to something that is not the norm in PBW games.

Fyron

Remote mining is not very useful in stock se4 (the PBW norm), actually. It is just so easy to start building planets within the first 110 turns or so. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Just to clarify:

With Proportions mod and in infinite resource games, remote mining doesn't deplete value right?

Fyron
May 29th, 2003, 01:22 AM
Yes, it does deplete the resource values.

PvK
May 29th, 2003, 09:36 AM
In Proportions Versions 2.5.3 or higher, remote mining does not reduce resource values.

In Proportions Versions 2.5.2.2 or lower, remote mining does reduce resource values.

That's with the recommended default "unlimited resources" setting.
