I was looking at the ICON bar today and it occured to me that there were Icons on the bar that I did not recogonize. I opened the HTML manual, but it did not have them listed. I would like to know what they are so here ya go.

That is "use component", unknown, "Use Facility" (not used in game AFAIK), and replay of selected ship's movement (I think maybe)
Read across/then down.

Assuming you mean the red boxxed ones..
Top row left to right:
"use" item (emergency propulsion or supply pod, UNUSED
Second row left to right
[not sure, someone else will know answer], play movement log for all ships (simultaneous games)
Slick.

I click on a empty system and like magic it is over. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Similarly in a battle replay, just click on an empty spot away from the battle.
EDIT: Ooops, I could be wrong about the bottom right button. It works with the other buttons.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That doesn't work with the show log of all ships button. What it does is systematically go through every ship you own and show its movement log. I have tried getting out of it, but the only things possible are waiting it out and ctrl + alt + del.
And in regards to your edit, yeah, you are wrong about the show for all ships button. It is indeed evil incarnate. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

That evil incarnated button may also crash your game, if it feels that the replay isn't long enough to cause enough pain!

I had read not to use that replay ship movement. Something about not working correctly, so I just try to remember what I am doing, it is hard, but I get by.

Yeah, replay all ship movements is real EVIL. Every time I click it, I had to use Cntrl-Alt-Del.
Why MM keeps it still ? Surely nobody use it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

To quote the HTML manual that button is "Not being used."
Edit: I'm talking about the swirly looking button.

I seem to remember the swirly button being activated for a while, during Classic beta (somewhere in v0.20 thru v0.99). I can't for the life of me remember what it was for, though... I think it was during a test multiplayer game I was having with Rambie, and I recall thinking "why does that have a button?"...
Maybe I'm just remembering going through all the interface files and changing the blue borders to red, to see what it looked like... I did do that around the same time.
