When I try to update my SE IV 1.60 Gold Version to 1.84 I get an error message saying that my exe file is incorrect... or something crazy like that...What is wrong and how do I fix it ASAP. Thanks. (Oh... reinstalling is not an option now cuz the CD is about 150km away at my parents house...LOL)
any bright ideas anyone? (apart from driving to my parents house and then reinstalling... not a good idea, cuz I don't have a car and even if I had one -I don't have any gas money:)))

You probably don't want to hear this, but I had the same problem and the only way I could update was to reinstall. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Maybe they could mail you the CD???

Did you mod any of the original datafiles?
If so, try getting the unmodded files to set your game back to original.
You could also try gold patch 2 before patch 3...

I had the same issue with this patch on one of my systems. A fresh install of SE4g fixed it.

Forgot to add that renaming the original install directory will preserve all of the downloads that you have collected. Just paste them into the fresh install after you apply the patch.

Reinstalling over an old install does not delete any added files. You do not need to uninstall first, just reinstalling is sufficient (in my experience, at any rate).

Another thing to watch for:
If you have multiple installs of SE IV, the patch may have a hard time finding the correct folder. Check to make sure it's looking in the right place.
If you need to change the target folder, you have to double-click the new folder in the list.
