View Full Version : Mines and AI use

I've played a number of games and right now am playing a game on the hardest settings in a huge galaxy.
I've noticed in all my games I've never seen the AI use them for defending planets. The only place I've ever seen them is at warp points.
Does the AI use them to protect planets and/or stars?
As a side note. This is the first game where I've gone after conquering planets instead of destroying them or their stars or just wiping them clean. It's late in the game and even with my 50% strength loss my large troops really seem to have no problem with them.
Conquering makes for a faster game too.
Thanks!

I think your correct, I also have never seen the AI launch mines over a planet, just sats.
However, its a real AI stopper if you launch mines over your planets http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I may have to try that next game. I bet that would work really great early in the game!

You are indeed correct that the AI doesn't launch mines over planets. This is definitely on my wish list for SEV. All you really need is a "Percentage of mines to keep as planetary cargo" line in AI_settings.txt, and some hard codding work and this could be added relatively easily.

I agree, Cybersol, this would be a good counter measure for the AI.

Actualy, it has a neat impact against a Human Player as well http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Rigth now, I'm playing an one on one game against the Tessellate: High Bonus, small galaxy and 3 starting planets...
Until now I was able to stop them, but from some turns ago (we're at the turn 75), even using mines over my planets I can't stop them... They took a system from me, and invaded other 2 (conquering some of my planets).
Ergo: still think that using High Bonus, try to defeat the AI in small galaxy is very challenging to me...
