I am having major problems with my computer--things like my primary master HD making lovely clicking noises and little things like that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif Anyway, I had decided just yesterday (Friday) night that I needed to make backups, based on the current rash of HD problems around here, so I Ghosted two partitions onto a third one and split them up into CD-sized pieces, planning on burning them this morning. Lo and behold, this morning I didn't have a hard drive from which to boot. The data guys say it sounds pretty simple to retrieve either the two partitions of data or the one of backups, so hopefully I will be up and running again before the end of the week (no promises, though). And, it's an excuse to go out and buy two shiny new harddrives in the same size--probably 200GB each should do. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

The moral of this story is--if you haven't backed up your hard drive, drop whatever you're doing, and DO IT RIGHT NOW!

So have I.

Though the weirdest has a crash that took all my text files, garbled them, and inserted clear, complete sentences..that had never been in the file in the first place!

If there was a virus involved, the scanners never found it (yes, plural)

Phoenix there were a couple of Word macro viruses that did things like that. They were prevelent about 5 years ago.
